Title: Aftermarket Tach/Speedo
Post by: MRDRcycle on July 18, 2019, 01:07:28 AM
Hello,

Does anyone know of good options for and places to buy aftermarket tach/speedo's for the RD350? My stock unit recently crapped out and I don't have the $ to refurb it just yet. I looked around on mike's XS and they seemed to have quite a few compatible units. I don't really know of any other reliable place to find them. :haw:

They're available on Ebay, made for the Rajdoots. Under $50 for the set.

also remember, kawasaki and yamaha use the same ratios in the gauges.  :toot: so it opens the options a bit.

i-might- have a decent stock tach i dont need.

Man that is cheap! I like it. Do the Rajdoot tach/speedos fit directly into the stock housing?

im prety sure they will. even though they mount like an r5 gauge on an actual radjoot from what ive seen, i think they will fit right in. .02

How about a Tach that doesn't look too modern?

Can an R5 and RD350 be swapped?

Sorry about the thread jack... it all seems appropriate

fair considering.

the mounting is different. then,t he mounting points on the tree are different. (can be overcome with a simple bracket) so, if you make an adapter to physically mount them, then yes, they will mechanically work when swapped.

These look like they "may" be a direct fit. My dad uses this site sometimes for Royal Enfield parts. I figured it would make sense that they would have RD stuff too. It looks like they have the "R5" version and this one as well.

Rajdoot  spec Speedo/Tacho are replicas not oem replacement, most of them would not give true reliable readings and needle on tacho starts jumping post 3k rpm. Incase you insist for retro gauges, Mark has a set to offer, else oot for something modern
I doubt, Rajdoot gauges will fit into Rd350 housing. They can be bought for $10.

Thanks for the info. I'm going to look around to see what is available and might check back with mark as well. I've got some carb work to do and then these are next on the list (hopefully it stays a small list :/ )

Thanks for looking and no worries man. I found a lot of options that will fit on mikesxs, but will need to figure out how to mount them. I guess I'll need to relocate the ignition as well.

Rajdoot speedo and tacho sets are as good as originals as they were made by Pricol or Yankey ?? All Indian RDS use the same and they work as good as any 70s units do !!

But the ones available on ebay are copies and quality wise I would not prefer .. The used Rajdoot ones are getting sold for 89 90 USD in India as they are rare to find like the 70s ones in USA.

Secondly the male coupling & threads are bigger than the USA models so you need to get the  cable end cap below the speedo and tacho changed to bigger ones.

Cheers

I have a R5, couple of Rajdoots, an USRD350 and a 1976 250C. These were built by me from grounds up!, so I can give you a heads up!

Being a purist, I desist from fitting one bike's meter set to another. Each has a unique distinction. But, I have done it once - fitted a 1977 meter set onto one of my Rajdoot. Mod - well yes, enlarging the two holes and it fits straight.

Rajdoots have a wider meter cover and is compatible with its own meter plate. The center pod is quite similar to later 250s/400s. FYI, its meter plate fits directly onto USRD T plate. If you were to swap the complete meter set, then it is okay.

The ones available are replicas. Have not used these and hence, I cannot comment. Seen many using though. Originals ones and refurbished originals [with its original internals] are good enough. But, these clocks are not as good as Nippon Seiki in my experience. The only advantage with Rajdoot stuffs are in its simplicity. Simple to fit, simple to remove and simple to wire!, unlike the complicated ones of my 1976 C - it has inner damper rubbers, outer cups, wires to be routed appropriately etc etc

One more issue you may face with Rajdoot meters are its drives - the speedo and tacho ends will not suit the USRD cable. You will have to find a wider cable nut to match.

Czakky...keep RD meters away from your R5. If I recall, R5 T plate is about 10mm shorter than RD T Plate. Bike looks horrible if you were to fit a meter set of a RD350 - I tried and swore on myself!

I believe I brought this question up on the old board.  Is there a hot ticket way to mount a single, original gauge (tach or speedo) to the upper triple clamp?  Maybe something from an enduro?  Aftermarket?
