So I'm trying build a psycho R5. I bought Economan's stg2 RD350 Supertune top end. Now I'm trying to decide on pipes. I kinda like the looks of the "street" style Spec2s but from all reports the external stinger style pipes seem to have more performance.
How much would the street Spec2s hold me back on a psycho RD?
they wont. great pipes. talk to chuck about stinger dia size thoughts for his top ends. :twocents:
Go with spec 2's...Dyno proven.
Only about 3-4 HP between Classics and F1's.
Make sure you use the proper order method, do as soon as you can as Gary is about 8-10 weeks out (made to order) and I'm always worried about him retiring soon!
Chuck
Thanks guys, will get on the ball and order up a set.
Bye bye JL retro, hello specro!
Gonna make me rethink my retros.
Anybody have a number for Spec 2? The one posted on the website doesn't work.

That's the number I just tried
Haven't spoke to Gary for a few years but here is the one I have in my phone, (818)837-4240

That's the correct number. Gary was saying he might have to move shop, wasn't supposed to be this soon. If the phone continues not to work, try sending an e-mail to him: speciiis@verizon.net
The number changed to (747)257-5129
I got a hold of the man! It was an awesome conversation.
Get them while you can...
I'm thinking to order a few sets and just sit on them.
His pipes work really well. Yeah JL's look trick but are not as good for street pipes, JL's design is too track friendly. Not enough torque friendly for street bikes.
My Opinion Only!

Yeah I've spent a few hours talking to Gary. Great guy but a typical savant. Just a bit off center socially. Says exactly what he means and many cannot understand it.

I talked with him for several hours several months back. It was a good conversation. I just NEED to get a set of his pipes for myself as well. As Chuck and Gary himself suggested he won't be doing it forever.
I just received a set of F1 pipes for my RD350 at the end of Sept. Gary has injured his collar bone, and tthis has hindered him. Hope he gets well quickly.
Bummer. I see my CC was charged for the pipes so maybe he got the made before injuring himself.
Hope he's doing ok.
When I got my pipes from him about 1.5 years ago he told me they were made by a local welder same with his rearsets.
Not sure.

He normally doesn't charge your CC until the day he ships. So you should be good!
My cc was charged the day he shipped the pipes. They arrived when he said they would, and he also provided tracking #.
Very pleased overall.
I could be getting ahead of myself, but maybe Gary would sell his designs when he retires. Then someone could carry on the tradition.
He does outsource his welding BTW.
Gary did the top end on my bike @ Stage II. I reasoned his F1 pipes would be a good compliment. I'm pleased with it all.
He's a character to deal with, talked my ear off on nearly every call. At one point, he was telling me his family history. I'm not kidding. I kept thinking that if he had someone to handle phone calls, he could get twice as much machine work done.
They showed up today.
Anybody have a good exhaust paint they can recommend?
https://www.homedepot.com/p/Rust-Oleum-Specialty-12-oz-High-Heat-Ultra-Semi-Gloss-Black-Spray-Paint-241169/203161184
I used this on my FPPs for the refurb and it has held up well.

VHT header paint. I mean, that's what it's made for.
Depends if you want flat or semi gloss ( satin ) finish. My FPPs came semi gloss and if memory serves VHT is flat finish. Either way both are good paint. I think the Rustoleum is around 6 bucks a can at good old Wal-Mart...I did the Mop N Glo on my Moto Carreras as well and it worked pretty good. I got tired of reapplying it and ordered some gun metal gray high temp and it has also held up well.
vht is ok, but you need to definitely let it set and cure or its a nightmare. did that with a set of car headers, let it sun cure for like 3 days in the 100 degree sc sun, been on the car 5 years, still looks good.
bbq paint IMHO looks shit. Ive had decvent luck recently with the low gloss caliper paint on chambers.
Mine turned out very nice. Thanks.
I'm looking for flat black. I have time to let em cure. I really just want a good tough finish.

.. as an option.
I have 2 sets of F1's, one painted and one bare. Used Rustoleum engine enamel with great results and
WD40 on the bare metal.
I'm not sure this bike will be worthy of the Jet-Hot treatment. A guy can dream though.
