1978 Yamaha DT400 Supermoto - $3350 (Santa Barbara)
Classic vintage 1978 Yamaha 2 stroke DT400! Rare bike that has been completely restored and rebuilt. Down to the frame, which was blasted and powder coated. Motor rebuilt. Tank and plastics painted. Likely the best 78 DT400 in the country. Has Buchanan sun gold rims mounted to stock hubs with stainless spokes.
This bike was a nut and bolt restoration. Many of the fasteners were replaced with stainless steel. Also some custom upgrades and features, pegs, shifter, tires etc.
Way more invested in the bike than the asking price. Draws a crowed every time I take it out. Less than 100 miles since rebuild. Odometer shows 7208 miles.
Currently registered and clean title in hand.
No low ball offers and do not ask if it is still available. Serious only
That looks like way too much fun...

You WILL be disappointed with this motor unfortunately...
Wow I would love to have a big bore air cooled 2 stroke street bike and that one is about perfect. I have a nice place for it next to my RD.
Upgrading to a disc front end would have been a good idea
A friend of mine built a plated IT465 supermoto and kept the front drum and it was sketchy as hell ☠️
These are cool in theory, but the complaints about the weak engine, vibration, and poor handling are well known.
Would a pipe, porting, v-force reed, bigger TM or PWK carb, and a pod make these more enjoyable on/ off the road? Not to mention better brakes, shock, springs, wheels....
I always wondered how a tricked out street tracker or motard DT400 would ride. I believe a cool looking DT400 motard CL ad with all the bell and whistles was posted here awhile ago.
A pipe would help. They just don't rev with the stock pipe.
Some of you may remember the RD350 "Kart Track Racer" from this spring.
Last year, we raced a RT360 set up very similar to the DT400 above.
We ran a RD350B disc front end, Jemco pipe, etc.
It was really fun and did well in the race. No match for an RD on the straights but could easily keep up in the tight stuff.
Ive got a piped DT 400 with a 38mm carb and some other "tricks" done to it aswell, revs out excellently now, lol....
In stock form they are scary slow for a 400 cc single but they have TONS of potential. Yamaha did a lot to choke them down. ditch that crap cdi for a points set up, do some port work, yada yada yada....
But after a pipe and a carb they are stupid fun, just like a 400 single should be. I often thought of adding an 18" front wheel and a disk on mine, but just havent done it yet.
