Title: Re-Chrome
Post by: AAAltered on September 05, 2019, 03:46:53 PM
Has anyone got a line on a small batch chromer?  I am thinking about redoing my fenders, chain pulls, brake hardware, etc.

Ideas on cost?

Thanks
Ed

I was quoted $300 for a set of fork tubes. I ended up buying new ones.

Holy hell I can probably find NOS for $1000.
I see a place near me online, when I'm ready I'll report back findings....

I've heard about shipping parts to Mexico for chrome plating. I've never tried using any of them but it might be worth looking into.

I had a bunch of parts replated recently by Quality Plating in Sterling, IL (815) 626 5223.  Timing was fine, plating was good.  The parts were not "show chromed" to perfection - more like OEM parts quality, which was perfect for this project.

I had 2 air box end caps, a chainguard, kickstart lever and pivot, gas cap lid a bunch of bolts plated for less than 400 bucks.

http://www.qualitychromeplating.com/kawasaki.php for indicative prices.  They were really easy to deal with.

Chrome isn't going to be cheap no matter what. The disposal costs for chemicals is outrageous. I've been using Graves Plating (https://gravesplating.com/#home) in Alabama since the '80s and never a bad result.

I paid $500 for all of my hardware on my rz350 to be plated. And that was me cleaning blasting and having everything clean for them.

As posted in my Projects thread, I got the first batch back.  The guy was happy to hear that the collective is interested in his work and he will gladly do mail-order.
