Turning Wrenches / Seized RD 400
October 28, 2024, 07:50:47 PM
I seized up my rd. that I had completely rebuilt in 2023.Made a big hole in the top of the left piston, got a new ignition pickup installed and didn't retime it.What needs to be done to the bottom end when it is rebuilt?
Has prox pistons now the place a local mechanic uses for boring uses wossler. What are the advantages or not of forged and cast pistons in my rd.? It is at 64.75 now. Any comments suggestions or help on what needs to be done. Thank You.

Quote from: mixedbikes on August 09, 2024, 11:15:40 PMI think it is crazy also, sadly my cousin may he rest in peace passed away. He was a custom bike painter and most of my stuff was always buy the beer and paint and its done. He passed away last year and local shops think anything other than insurance work they want to make a killing off of. I did take Marks lead and just got a pair of those cheap carbs to play with for a 350 I am building just to play with. They actually look pretty decent.

More info on coil test. The side that has no spark reads 15.75 oms not the five it should have.the side that runs gives me nothing on the meter?Replace the left with oem.coil or replace it all?

I paid an expert to work on my bike.Shipped the whole bike to him because i8 didn't want to mess with wiring. When I got it back it ran good and had over 40hp on his dyno.it's just acting up this year.I it continues my manuals give me # hope they are correct.

My bike had giant accel auto coils in it.Had to take them out to make room for a yboot air cleaner. The stock coils were still their so they just rewired them.Said the 400 coils in 1977 were good ones.Guess testing them is the next step?

Turning Wrenches / Rd 400 misfires or one cyl.

:umm: Have a 1977 RD 400 it cuts out, runs on one cyl and will not revout. It is all rebuilt and I have cleaned the carbs 3 times.Could this all be caused by a weak battery? shows 14.4 volts when you rev it so its not the stator.Has a cheap lead acid battery in it?Might be two years old. Thinking of ordering a new agm battery for it,what is the best one? and where can i get it.

Turning Wrenches / Re: Rd 400 needs crank seals

Thanks for the tip! I talked to Ed on the phone the other day and just looked at pic's on facebook.Prices seem reasonable for the quality of the work.He knows what works and doesn't seem to be selling any fluff. Now I just need to get my Rd too him.
who is the best shipper that you  know of ? thanks again  Jan Kurth

:help:My 1977 Rd 400 has almost 33k on the original crankseals. It is hard to start ,surged badly and then went nuts revving in neutral  with the key off.Was wanting to get a electronic ignition put in it ,but now I think I also need the bottom rebuilt. It had a new pistons app 3k ago. Has old accel coils and it seems to stay charged. Is a dyna S good? And what do I need to have done to the crank? Ozmo Rd.

General Chatter / Re: Oh god, an oil thread!

I use the amsoil dominator.I have been using it in my Ktm 200 a long time, and that motor shows very little wear.Almost no visable smoke when used in my oilinjected RD. 400.
