Turning Wrenches / Re: brush holder question

I'm very interested in this topic as I also have charging issues. On a previous post of mine I found that the green wire had a bare patch and was shorting:

So I joined the green and black wires directly together, bypassing the whole phenolic washer arrangement.

Turning Wrenches / Re: 1974 RD250 - Coil Issue?
May 03, 2026, 03:45:28 PM
Thanks for the suggestions. I did a temporary direct feed off the battery to the coils and that made a huge difference. She will now rev past 6K in all gears, albeit with a bit of a stumble around 6-7k. So I guess I've got a voltage drop somewhere in the ignition circuit. I plan to do the relay mod so I can get power directly from battery to coils.

I am suspecting the stumble might be fueling: I'm running DG chambers, Uni foam filter and Y-boot. Pilots are 30, mains are 130. One of the needles is pitted. I think I might need larger mains for this setup and replace the pitted needle.

Turning Wrenches / 1974 RD250 - Coil Issue?
April 30, 2026, 02:35:36 PM
Hi Friends,
Need some of your collective expertise on this one. The motor sits in this project which some of you may remember:
https://www.2strokeworld.net/forum/index.php?topic=3909.77

I've been road-testing lately and I've got this odd behavior when revs hit 6000 and above. The motor just dies. I've been through fuel delivery, carb jets and everything checks out to spec. Timing also in spec. Points, plugs and condensor are all new. Once in a rare while she will rev past 6000 but it's rough and only in lower gears. I'm beginning to suspect coils and/or charging under load. Any ideas?

I found a left side fairing air scoop on eBay and I've decided to stick with the K&N air filter setup. So all I really need now is a left side mirror/turn signal. There are a couple of options on eBay but they look expensive for what they are. Any help/leads would be appreciated!

Man, that brings back memories! I grew up in Dublin Ireland in the late 60's early 70's and the "Yassy" as we called it was the cool bike to have. Nice to see her being brought back to life

I recently acquired a slightly crashed 1988 Ducati Paso 750. I wasn't particularly looking for this but I got it at a great price ($0). It sat for 13 years after the previous owner binned it. I got the motor running so now I'm in search of some replacement body parts. Hoping that someone will have some or all of these Paso 750 parts gathering dust:
1. Left side mirror/turn signal (preferably white color but will consider any color)
2. Left side fairing scoop (ditto)
3. Airbox

Let me know if you can help me out here!
Thanks

I rode that Montezuma Valley Road to Borrego Springs last January! A friend of mine & I decided on a last-minute first ride of 2025 and flew into SD. We rented a pair of bikes on Rider's Share, he got a Triumph Tiger 900 and I got an Aprilia Tuono 660. We rode from SD north toward Escondido then east to Mt Palomar and overnighted in Borrego Springs. Next day we continued to Salton Sea then north up through Joshua Tree NP and back west to Palm Desert. The last day we rode from Palm Desert over the mountains to Idyllwild (where it snowed!), north to Banning then back down to Julian for lunch and last night in SD. A memorable ride through stunning scenery!

General Chatter / Re: Best motorcycle lift?

Me and my mates all have Kendon lifts:
https://kendonusa.com/collections/stand-up-folding-motorcycle-lifts-and-bike-lift-for-motorbikes
I've had mine for many years now and it has been fantastic. What I really like about it is that you can stand it up vertically when not in use to save space.  It can be hand-cranked or attach an airline to raise it quicker.
They are not cheap but they do come up on the used market from time to time. I got mine used.

Agree with all the above. I was wondering if he added a zero by mistake. For $300 I'd go check it out.

Not mine. Posting says CS3 but I'm pretty sure this is a CS5. Looks like a lot of missing parts and zero info about the bike/title etc. I'd be tempted but not at that price!

Haus of Projects / Re: Need help on project

I would think you'd want to use the RD harness for your build as that will match up with the charging system of the motor. If you go on the Partzilla website and search for the correct year Yamaha RD400 and the Electrical page you'll get a detailed parts fiche with pics of the various components.
https://www.partzilla.com/catalog/yamaha/motorcycle/1976/rd400c/electrical
Hope this is helpful. Another option would be for you to post pics of the parts you can't identify and the forum will chime in. Good luck with build!

If you have complete wiring harnesses for both FZ and RD, I would think the FZ harness would have mostly multi-pin connectors vs the RD which would be mostly bullet connectors. Hope this helps!

Turning Wrenches / Re: Adjustable preload fork caps

I found them useful for setting the correct initial front-end sag. Once that is set to the correct height I don't fiddle with them. Just my 2 cents.
