Quote from: m in sc on November 12, 2025, 09:26:12 AMas far as I know, the last 400 in Canada did indeed have a cdi. but im not 100%. I am curious if a UK 250e crank would go in though..

The UK RD250 E/F has the same ignition taper as the LC / YPVS motor and is a direct swap. As bitzz says above the only drawback is the keyway which is 90 degrees out. Almost identical to the TZ cranks and has the bonus of having no lead balance weights. I have several but sadly in the UK  :umm:

Good luck with that Warren. You've got to be in it to win it....or so the saying goes. Here's a couple of pics I took in 2017 when I was lucky enough to visit the Yamaha Communications Plaza in Iwata whilst on holiday

Warren

Have you seen the Yamaha Communication Plaza's Facebook page ? They're currently advertising YA-1 rubber spare parts for sale (seat / grips etc)

If you haven't got it already I've just found the Aircooled RD Club step by step rebuild in PDF format  :olaf:

It was probably this one on the Aircooled RD club forum. It was an excellent step by step guide by club member SFBrain. Sadly although the written content is still there, it looks as though the pictures have disappeared, probably as a consequence of the recent forum IT issues and subsequent upgrade / rebuild. You could always message the guy to see if its still available. I'm sure I've seen it somewhere else

Strangely the OEM reference on the box ( 34X ) is the correct Yamaha code. The rod in the 03.2251 kit would have worked however you would have had to use you're old big end pin (not recommended) Have you just bought the one kit ?

Quote from: Bryan H on June 08, 2023, 04:30:44 PMAccording to the PROX catalogue I have the 03.2251 kit is for a RD / DT 125LC YPVS. The kit for the RD250 / 350 is a 03.2025 which should be the same as the R5. The 03.2251 kit has almost identical dimensions however there are a couple of subtle differences the main one being that the big end pin is 3mm longer.

Here's the  link to the listing I bought.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/263035585140

Googling the PROX part number only mentions the RD / DT 125. No mention of the R5. Fingers crossed you'll hopefully get the right part

This is the tank I have. Bought for an Ascot replica project but never used. Think it might be YDS2 ?

But here I am..5 years later and still yet to find a correct tank.

Still got mine Uwe. Sadly the bike's no further on than it was 10 years ago  :( :(

Hi Bryan,
nice to hear from you. Your clamp was one of five or six which went to the UK back then.
I know these feelings when builds didn't come along as planned. How is your 3-clinder project? I started a new one now based on a TZ engine......
Regards Uwe

Hi Uwe
Despite my best efforts to save them, in frustration I took a grinder to the crankcases on the 3 cylinder project as they were poorly engineered, poorly welded and leaked like a sieve  :bang: Needless to say I'm on the lookout for another set  :help:
