General Chatter / Re: Oh god, an oil thread!

Been using Motul 710 2T mostly.  Injector or premix.

Transoil Expert for the gearbox. It did improve the shifting of my Derbi.

Cost of the oil really isn't a factor for me.

Quote from: busa1300 on October 22, 2025, 08:53:46 PMMy favorite bike.....21 Aprilia RSV4.
Scares the hell out of me, but I'm addicted to the way it pulls and sounds.

On the return road on a standing start 1/2 mile top speed airport run.

Where did you run?

General Chatter / What's your daily rider?
October 21, 2025, 08:14:57 PM
I have a couple 2-strokes I tinker with, but if I'm going a distance I choose my daily rider - a SV650n I bought new in 2006.

What's your daily rider?

Over the years I've blacked-out almost all the silver parts, added a slip-on, Ohlins rear shock, proper fork springs and oil, different bars and mirrors, seat cowl/passenger peg delete, removed the stickers, eliminated the rear fender, tinted and shortened the signals, did some minor tuning adjustments, and added new Michelin Roads this year.

Race Discussions / Re: Moto3 class change - 2028

Quote from: SoCal250 on October 19, 2025, 12:33:01 PMIn a little over 20 years they've succeeded in ruining all 3 classes in GP. For good measure they even did Moto3 twice. >:(
And with Liberty now in charge I'm predicting we haven't seen the end of the bad decisions.
I agree.

Liberty will move motorcycle racing in the direction of F1 - and kill it (for me at least).

They are on the way with the Moto3 announcement.

That's too bad.

Right now, it's the most competitive and exciting of the Moto classes.

If I had to watch only one class, it would be Moto3.

Looking good! Neat idea for a RD engine.

I got my road racing license on a SRX600, back in the day.

Crazy-bad photo, but you get the idea -

Always thought the SRX250 looked like fun - but it was painfully slow.

Not my photo.  I'm way too busy on race day to be taking pictures!

Some really neat stuff - thanks for the pix!

My son moved to OC recently, and I sent him the dates for upcoming meets.

Hopefully he can check one out.

Impressive improvising!

Make sure you know what you are using if you go the race gas route.

We run VP MR12 in our KTM race bike, and it does provide a bump in power, but it needs to be flushed after every use.

Probably not something anyone would use on the street, but if you did use it without being familiar with it, you would cause all sorts of problems with your fuel system.

Turning Wrenches / Re: Wandering chain tension
September 23, 2025, 11:33:04 AM
Quote from: Vintagewannabe on September 23, 2025, 10:30:43 AMSo I pulled the rear wheel, and checked the sprocket, and bearings. Wheel bearings were perfect, cush drive is still good, looks like my carrier bearing has a bit of play, like if you were to try and twist the carrier on the axle, same way you check wheel bearings on the bike.
So once I had the wheel on the truing stand, I checked the sprocket and it acted out of round. Sat the wheel on the ground, and realized that around the carrier, inside the center bore of the rear sprocket there was a large gap on one side and none on the other. The taller area fell between the two green dots I made, which falls in line with all the slack in the sprocket being on that side.
So I pulled the rear sprocket and the center bore of the sprocket was 1mm larger than the hub on the sprocket carrier. Any other sprocket I have fitted has been a tight fit, but this one is definitely not, but I did not think much of it at time of install.
I have it back together, and now there is a much smaller variation in chain tension. About 1/4 in or less, vs the 3/4 it was.
Has anyone else had a sprocket that loose on the hub? I'm thinking of just ordering a custom one from sprocket specialists.
Based on what you have posted previously, it appears to me that the sprocket has been the issue.

Not sure if you turned it 180 degrees when you reinstalled it, but there's a chance that could improve the inconsistent tension.

It seems like that sprocket is out of spec in a few ways.

Quote from: 2 Smoker on September 18, 2025, 01:54:37 AMLast month a bird flew into my helmet shield with some good force, it was intense and glad it did not cause me to crash.......first time getting hit in the head with a bird. No helmet law in Idaho but glad I was wearing mine that day.
Wow - can you imagine what they would have been like without a helmet?

No helmet law here, and probably over 50% don't wear helmets or gear.  On the road, it seems like about 70% of the cycles are Harleys - WI after all.

Speaking of Turkeys, I rode by a dozen of them this morning.  6 on one side of the road and 6 on the other.  Luckily, none on the road.  It's a common area for them, and a 30 MPH zone, so it's not a big deal.

And lots of fake NGK plugs on the market as well.

They are getting very good at faking them - and it's pretty tough to tell.

If you search "Fake NGK plugs" on YouTube you will find numerous videos on how to identify them and what the issues are.
