Turning Wrenches / Re: RD350 3rd gear slip

Quote from: m in sc on June 26, 2025, 07:00:47 PMsounds like 3rd gear dogs worn or bent shift fork
Guessed as much. But what I find strange is that there was no problem when I parked. Only when I started back that it came up. It couldn't have happened on its own while parked?

Turning Wrenches / RD350 3rd gear slip
June 26, 2025, 04:43:15 PM
Hullo folks,  so I just get up one morning,  fire up the old RD350 LC cylinder hybrid,  reach the cafe and as soon as I finish up my latte and start heading home........the 3rd gear begins giving a horrible clanking sound ( sort of a gun cocking ) and starts to slip.......The problem seems  to only be in the 3rd gear till now. This was a first , never has such a problem before....engine oil levels are fine.
I am seriously hoping not to have to overhaul the entire engine/transmission as the last one was just 2000 miles.thanks.

Chinoy ignitions are downright crap. Believe that is why economycycle discontinued them some indian members also tried them, better than stock but no where compared to MZB.my  :twocents:

Turning Wrenches / RD350 LC hybrid coolant issues
February 08, 2023, 01:21:09 PM
My coolant seems to get used up on very short runs , I end up having to fill the radiator frequently.  I don't see any leaks when i park the bike and there seems to be no steam coming out of the radiator overflow pipe either.

Right.thanks.what about the timing settings? Since I am using the RD400 con rods with a spacer underneath the cylinders.

Turning Wrenches / Jetting on LC RD hybrid
December 14, 2021, 07:20:15 AM
I am running a 350LC top end , with a 5mm spacer on RD350 LC long rod bottom end with stock exhaust.

my question is what changes do I need to make for the timing which is 1.8 for RD and also I read somewhere that the 81 LC uses 200 main jets in stock form while the RD  jets on the the VM 28 are 140mm. Do in need to change the main jets then? Thx!

not necessarily. that being said, you would then need to build a rail and linkage arms and fabricate adjusters . huge pain in the ass. and then you would always have to pull all 4 carbs at one time.
I believe there are carbs which come with pre-made linkages, like the Mikuni RS series?

Wouldn't a single cable and pulley system  provide better synchronization to the carbs?

Thanks.and about the carbs? Any upgrades? Would it be better to move to small carb like a 30 or even 28 to get better low end.....

Best and easiest to get solution is a dual cable throttle and then two splitters.  TZ750 throttles are out there, but rare.  KZ1000 is a horse of a different color and not at all applicable;  One cable, activating a pulley connected to a shaft that works 4 carbs that are bolted together in one solid bank.
Thanks.splitters? What are they......a website link perhaps....

Turning Wrenches / TZ/RD 750 carb throttle issue
November 29, 2021, 10:07:25 AM
After getting my hands on the hard to get Manifolds and reeds, I am now thinking of

1) which carbs to use( stick I believe are 34mm) for a good low end
.2) should I  use a single wire throttle body like the KZ1000 connected to all 4 carbs or try finding a 4 wire stock throttle. Thanks.
