This thing makes me smile every time I ride it, especially after not riding it for almost 6 months.

Haus of Projects / My sleeper R5
February 15, 2020, 05:30:16 PM
So I sold my 73 350 and part of the deal was taking an R5 on partial trade. The bike is complete, all of the chrome is nice and it has both fenders. The bike came with new Avon's on it and an MZB. All in all it is pretty decent, most of the painted parts look to be original except for the gas tank, it looks ok in the pic but it's pretty bad up close. Looks like it was redone with rattle cans and pretty poorly at that. Now for the bad......the left side top end and crank is junk. Looks like the wrist pin worked it's way out and destroyed the cylinder and basically everything except the head. I bought a supertune messaged R5 top end from a forum member and will throw a new crank in and leave the rest as is. I've also got some JL street retros for it. Other than the pipes and top end the bike will stay mostly stock, no rearsets, stock bars, etc. Should be a fun little bike.

General Chatter / My new ride
January 04, 2020, 12:23:12 PM
I've been bicycling for years, both recreational and racing, but mostly just recreational especially the last few years. I've done both road and off road and by far off road is the most fun. Ive even ridden in the winter on the roads with studded tires. I've recently picked up a fat bike so I could enjoy winter trail riding. I went today for the first time. Wow, what a blast. I now understand the attraction to fat bikes and winter trail riding. If you live in an area where this is available to you I highly recommend giving it a try.

This is my Hot rod the day I put it away last fall. There is a build thread on the old forum, I have no intentions of doing another. But heres a little update. No major changes planned except for new carbs, I went from 34mm straight bore lectrons to 38mm High velocity lectrons. (See pic) The idea is that they will still work like 34s down low but should let it breath better up high like big carbs do. No other changes except for a top end freshen up with new OEM Yamaha TZ750 pistons, wiseco rings, and new wrist pins and bearings. The reason for new pistons already is because when I built the motor it was suggested to start with used pistons so that's what I did.
