Turning Wrenches / Spark Plugs for new CDI kit Rd 400
October 06, 2019, 03:20:17 AM
Ordered the Vape CDI Ignition and Charging System for the Yamaha RD250/350/400,R5, and DS7.  From Economy Cycle.  Very nice people.
Forgot to ask them.  Will I need resistor spark plugs for this kit?  Do I need a plug with a different heat rating ? Trying to get everything together while waiting for the parts to arrive.
Bike is on the stand. Working the next 4 nights. Ready to get all the old parts off.  Any advice or helpful tips before I install the kit. Really bad service here but will look more into the forum.
Thanks , Bubba

Turning Wrenches / Lost Spark on Left Cylinder
October 02, 2019, 07:13:03 PM
Have 1976 Rd400. Lost spark on left bank while riding. The  bike has a CDI Ignition. Not sure what brand. Will try to post a picture.
Was riding Sunday. Everything was fine. Bike has been perfect. Monday was caught in a 3 minute rain show.  Went and put bike up.  Today problem occurred
Checked coil with ohm meter. Checks out ok. Changed plug. Still no spark. Pulled Stator cover. Everything looks in place and dry. Checked fuses and all are good. Battery is good.
Please help. Want to take the bike to the Harvest Classic Vintage BikeFestival in LukenbachTexas  on October 18-19.

As Always thank you Bubba

Turning Wrenches / Neutral Switch Plate Help
August 19, 2019, 03:45:20 PM
1976 RD 400 Neutral Switch Plastic plate broke. When cleaning the grease out of the side case cover to replace the gear shift seal. I found a white piece of plastic to the cover for the neutral switch. I have ordered a new cover screws and o ring.
What is under the cover? When I remove the 3 screws will anything fall out. Wondering if it is a simple remove and replace cover and o ring.
Any help is appreciated !

Thanks, Bubba

Need to remove the left crank case cover to replace gear shift rod seal. Is there a gasket between the cover and the engine? Do  I need to remove the generator cover also? Any tips would be very helpful.
Any secrets to replacing the seal? I have broken a screw on the right side cover screw before . I bought a Soto Pocket Torch. figured I would try and heat each screw before removing.
Thanks for any help suggestions. I work offshore and hopeing to get this done when I get off. Trying  to get the bike ready for the Harvest Classic Vintage Festival in Lukenbauch this October. Lots of nice lookin bikes were there last year.

As Always,  Thanks Bubba
