I'm a little surprised the RD500 made the list and the AC 350 did not. They may have felt the LC was enough.

Talk amongst yourselves :popcorn2:

~THE SPEED SHOP~ / RD shift shaft seal/ bushing kit
August 11, 2022, 11:48:59 PM
I installed this on my 400 this year and wow, it really tightens up the shifter and did stop an oil seepage point.

Turning Wrenches / RD400 Left Side Oil Leak
September 28, 2020, 08:47:37 AM
I've been struggling with this left side leak for some time now, really ever since the restore.

Gearbox oil is dripping off of the bottom of the neutral switch. It only appears after I ride. I first swapped the neutral switch o ring and eventually glued it on with high temp silicone. The issue did not go away.

I also hit the sprocket nut with an impact to make sure it was tight and then coated the blanking plugs with ultra black. The leak is still there.

In my mind, this leaves two options. The sprocket seal or the clutch push rod seal. All of the seals are new and the push rod is straight with no grooves.

I'm wondering if there are any tips to test where the leak is coming from or how to stop it.

I'm going to run it with the sprocket on and the side cover off to see if I can spot a leak coming out of the sprocket seal.

I'm for sure going to swap the sprocket seal with a new one and will probably put some ultra black around the sealing surfaces.

It's hard to find an oil trail under here due to all of the flinging oil with the spinning chain. Plus the left bottom side of the neutral switch is the lowest point so the leak could be coming from several places.

I'm bound and determined to find this and seal it up.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I came across this post on FB. Looks like a lady is trying to clean out her dad's garage. She thought she has a KZ250, but she really has an S1.

Looks like she just wants to get rid of it. I'm posting here to help her out.

2 stroke world friends,

In my spare time :busey: I've been working on a side project that I'm excited to share with you. It's a new buy/ sell site laptwo.com. It's like eBay, but focused only on motorsports related stuff. After dealing with eBay as a buyer and seller I found there was a lot to be desired.

Some ways we want to be better than eBay: for sellers, there is a 5% flat fee when an item sells. No other fees. I also see sellers as partners and treat them like they are part of the business and take their input seriously. They get great customer service and a lot of attention from our leadership team.

For buyers, our biggest benefit for that group is that my partner and I personally vet everyone who sells on the site to make sure there are no shady sellers with junk products. We also want to develop a community feel for the site and make it a place riders want to go to. At the end of the day, my partner and I are two guys that love motorsports and like to hang out with other people who love them too.

Anyway, we are about six months into being live and have been seeing some great results. I am looking for more sellers though. I'm particularly seeking out professional or semi pro salvage yard operations ideally who are already selling on eBay and have experience selling on a marketplace platform. I want to make sure they are highly rated and have quality listings.

We are not targeting guys who are cleaning out the garage and have a few parts to sell. Eventually, we will open up to smaller sellers but for now, I want to make sure that highly rated sellers with a lot of great products list with us. Plus I know the average guy has a lot of free options to sell stuff- forums like this, FB, CL, etc. It's larger operations that would benefit most from selling on LapTwo.

A couple of other things. We have the ability to upload listing via .CSV spreadsheet. Many of our sellers have been downloading their inventory spreadsheet of their listings from eBay and then we can upload it with minimal work. Also, sellers can keep their eBay store. We are not expecting anyone to shut that down.

So if any of you guys know any good salvage yard operations or sellers of motorcycle parts, mopeds/ scooter parts, power sport parts, or auto parts and are sick of being fleeced by eBay, send them my way and I'l be more than happy to have a chat with them.

Also, our site is new and growing and developing fast. We have a number of site improvements in the works. I would love to hear your guys' feedback.

Thanks!

General Chatter / XT250 tank compatibility
July 01, 2020, 01:04:37 PM
I have a customer looking for a tank for an 83 XT250. I know that 81-83 are interchangeable and a similar year TT250 tank will fit.

He wants a plastic tank. Do any of you know if other models or years will fit even if a little modification is required?

eBay/FB Marketplace/Craigslist watch / RD400
June 29, 2020, 11:02:22 PM
Is this someone's from the forum? I've seen it before.

Nice build.  https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/mcy/7150000388.html

https://youtu.be/nYo7WUodFj8 Copy and paste to hear it running.
Asking $4750.00 or OBO. THE BIKE IS LOCATED IN HENDERSON NEVADA NOW.
Selling my Yamaha RD 400 because I have bought a Honda CBR1000F now. When I bought the Yamaha it was a very cool bike and a lot of work had been done to it, the oil injection pump had been taken off and I just didn't want a bike I had to carry oil in a back pack to ride on a trips over a 120 miles. I started looking for oil pumps, but in the mean time I came across this very cool Honda CBR1000F and bought it. Well I now have 2 oil injection pumps and 1 rebuild kit for them, but I have lost interest, so it is time to sell the bike and let someone else enjoy it. A lot of money was spent building the Yamaha and I will include a list at the end of the description. The bike starts and runs, but I think the carbs need adjusting or cleaning and new throttle cable, but hard to find someone in Vegas who know how to work on these 2 stroke bikes. Pictures don't do the bike justice, you really need to see it in person.
Ok here is a list of what has been done to this beautiful Yamaha RD400.
-The frame, swing arm, brackets, headlight bucket, triple trees and gauges were all stripped and powder coated.
-new tapered steering bearings installed.
-new progressive forks springs and oil.
-new old stock red wing shocks.
-new swing arm bronze bushings.
-new Tarrozi folding rear sets with custom made aluminum brackets.
-Yamaha R6 rear master cylinder installed.
-front Nissan master cylinder rebuilt.
-front and rear brake calipers rebuilt with stainless steel pistons.
-custom braided brake lines installed.
-new tires and tubes.
-new hardware and grommets.

ENGINE:
- rebuilt crank with PRO X connecting rods with silver bearings.
- banshee pistons installed.
- new clutch plates and springs.
- Dave F carburetor modification done, boost bottle and spacers, Y booth intake with K&N air - air filter.
- new DG expansion chambers.

BODYWORK:
-custom HOUSE OF KOLOR paint job in mint condition ($1200).
-stripes, lettering and numbers are all painted (not decals).
- custom seat from AIRTECH, it has an aluminum under pan that hinges to the frame and locks just like the stock seat. Oil Injection pump has been removed, but have 2 oil injection pumps if you want to reinstall them. I run premix Yamaha lube at 32-1 right now. Might be interested in a possible trade, what have you got?
Any questions feel free to ask and I will try and answer them?

Turning Wrenches / GT380 fuel problem
January 05, 2020, 12:53:30 AM
My buddy's GT380 is showing signs of a fuel issue. It's dropping some gas, cold blooded, and has quit on him when riding. Seems like it's flooding somewhere.

He's suspecting an issue with the vaccum petcock and is considering a mod that just makes it flow. I'm wondering if its a stuck needle or another carb issue.

Any ideas on what to check? I'm not familiar with these.

A nicely done T500. Clearly written by a romance novelist. https://pittsburgh.craigslist.org/mcy/d/pittsburgh-1973-suzuki-t500-titan/6939449200.html

1973 Suzuki T500 Titan - Updated Restomod - $5500 (Pittsburgh)

1973 suzuki t500 titan
condition: new
engine displacement (CC): 500
fuel: gas
odometer: 9716
paint color: blue
title status: clean
transmission: manual

Up for sale today is a gorgeous 1973 Suzuki T500 Titan. She has been beautifully and professionally restored to like new condition with numerous period correct, and safety upgrades. If you know about this bike, then you know about the racing pedigree and historical associations it has buried in motorcycle past. I wanted to replicate the look and feel of the past, but with modern technique and safety.

The titan rests on Bridgestone battlelax bt45 rubber, wrapped over XS650 aluminum high shoulder hoops, laced to original hubs. The external spring forks and triples have been upgraded with needle bearings and replaced with a GT500 disc brake and fork set. A stainless line handles braking rigidity, a crucial upgrade for those that choose to ride their bike instead of garage queen it. Tank is resealed and rust free, oil lines and pump have been inspected and tested thouroughly. Polished engine cases with fresh fluids, (1400cc newer motor variant) fresh pistons (standard bore), rings, crank seals, and gaskets (NOS oem), upgraded metric hex stainless hardware along with a new 530 chain and original chrome chain guard set the tail end off. Twin chambered exhausts are professionally made and brought up from Maryland state via a well known fabricator. The Mikuni VM32 round slides have been jetted and tested with the pipes and work wonderfully, the right sort of rider will be delighted to hear and smell the beautiful 2 stroke crackle as she idles and then accelerates away. Other additions include rental super-bike bars with original Suzuki t500 grips, gauges, illumination, original seat and cover, upgraded reg/rect charging system, new battery, lightweight aluminum headlight ears, and all original switchgear. Tank and matching side cover patina is untouched, the beauty is in the stories of the original paint itself. This was best left undisturbed.

Reviving this motorcycle has been and incredible endeavor, but it's time for me to move on to other things. Value is something we speak about in all walks of like. The bike is priced accordingly due its lack of availability here, in addition to the parts, the waiting periods associated with those parts, and the quality of the restoration performed. The group of individuals responsible for making this project complete have offered hundred of hours of their time and professional facilities and expertise to make sure the end result was not only period correct, but reliable and safe for modern applications.

She runs great, starts first kick every time, and needs a new home, please contact me for more inquiries and questions. Do not miss the opportunity to own this historical chapter marker in motorcycle racing. Many extras and full documentation are included with the sale for the new owner. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this AD.

Bit of a stumper, so I'll see what the experts have to say.

Went for a problem free 70mi a ride a few days ago on the 400. I pulled into a gas station for a fill up and as I was turning in, the bike backfired.

Filled up with gas and then the bike started up running on one cylinder. Checked for spark and found no spark on the right side. Swapped plugs still no spark on the right side. Left side was fine. Pulled the tank and swapped the lead wires going into the coils (NOT the plug wires.) Right side now had spark, left side did not. This lead me to believe the problem is not the coil and is further back possibly the ignition module.

Put it all together. Started the bike again. Idled only on the left. I noticed I was getting spark on both sides when the revs were up. I made it the last 14 miles home but spark on the right side was not consistent. The next day, both sides were sparking fine when kicking it over. I have not ridden it yet to see if it the right side kills again, but I assume it eventually will because I haven't changed anything.

Details:
Dyna S ignition, new HVC wiring harness, OEM coils with ballast resistor. Spooner and I secured the junction between the stator and wiring harness and also checked timing last weeked to work out some other issues.

Any ideas?

Great to see the SV650 line improved the looks of the bike.

I wonder if there's a way to get the weight closer to 400lbs. Seems heavy as is. The anti-stall tech seems a little nerdy too.

I'm sure it's a blast anyway.  :vroom:

1973 Kawasaki 500 Mach III - $5500 (Tomahawk)

https://wausau.craigslist.org/mcy/d/tomahawk-1973-kawasaki-500-mach-iii/6917770738.html

Runs great, has been in the family for years but is not getting ridden or seen, so it needs to go somewhere where it will get ridden, seen and appreciated. The paint and body in general are all original and has the usual patina that comes with a bike of this age. Nothing is dented. The original helmet lock and key are there, and it works. I used it to get around at our second home but now we sold the primary home and moved the herd to the secondary home and I just don't have room. It has been maintained and treated like I was going to keep it forever. It's a blast to ride and you don't see many around.
Completely tuned – spokes checked, cables lubed, chokes and throttles adjusted, brake fluid changed, chain adjusted, heads retorqued (they were fine), baffles cleaned and repacked. K&Ns cleaned and oiled, general fastener check of chassis,
New tires, tubes, rim bands, chain, sprockets, fork seals, steering bearings, petcock rubber, fuel tank Creemed, carbs cleaned adjusted and synced, fuel lines, baffles repacked. Top end has been redone (1st over), new gear oil, uses BRP XPS full synthetic injection oil, includes original owner's manual and tool kit.
Non-stock – superbike handlebars, exhaust system, stock airbox replaced with individual K&N filters, rear fender bobbed.
Needs – Seat cover, battery, front brake line (surface cracks but works).

Call, text or e-mail. If I don't respond, your post appears to be a scam. You'll need to call to discuss. No B.S. deals please

Turning Wrenches / RD400 No brake light
May 28, 2019, 04:32:33 PM
FINALLY got out for my first ride of the season. Everything was good but I had no brake light for either brake. Taillight is fine.

Any ideas why or where to look? Under the headlight or further back?

I have an aftermarket Emgo LED unit. I could probably look through everything to find the cause, but it's quicker to ask this group of smart peeps.  :notworthy:
