I've sold these reproduction neutral switches for a while now. I'm looking to get some feedback on them. General feedback is welcome, but mainly interested to know if you've experienced any cracks at the screw mounts and if the switch is making it harder to shift by putting too much pressure on the drum. Or any leaks. I haven't gotten a single complaint or any returns other than one guy that said it was harder to shift.

General Chatter / Favorite new tool
August 26, 2023, 05:21:44 PM
Gyroscopic driver by Dewalt. What new sorcery is this?

This thing is really cool and quickly became one of my favorite "go to" tools. No forward or reverse switch, motion activated 0-430 rpm, just tilt in the direction need to go, tilt more it goes faster, tilt less it slows down. Accurate and controlled, easy to use to get the direction and speed you need. You can drive a bolt/screw really fast at first to get most of the threads in and then slow it down to a crawl when it's almost seated, and without stopping to change speed. Or quickly change direction without taking the bit off the fastener by just tilting the other direction. Adjustable 15 position torque settings, adjustable 2 position handle straight or pistol grip. Bright ring of focused LED's on the fastener, and 3 Led's on the driver for battery charge state, lasts me for days with lots of use. Quick change 1/4" bits.

It's a little strange at first, you squeeze the button and nothing happens, I thought it was defective, I bought two of them and the 2nd one did the same thing, so I decided to read the instructions. Once you get the hang if it though you'll really like it. About a hundred bucks, worth every penny.

I think it's Yamaha. Not a Daytona. Thought maybe XS650 but only 4 bolt holes. Looks to be of the same age/period as the RD rotors. Thick like the RD rotors. LC? Banshee? ATV? Google wasn't much help.

General Chatter / Heads up - Yamaha Price Hikes
December 02, 2021, 05:11:11 PM
I'm seeing some major price hikes on OEM Yamaha parts recently

examples
Oil Drain bolt gasket 4F4-14766-00 - $15.49  :jaw:
Yamaha Manifold Gasket / Reed Valve Intake Gasket 87A-13621-00-00 - $12.49
Yamaha RD250/350/400 RZ350 (all) Oil Pump gasket 126-13116-01-00 - $14.49

I've checked some of the big online parts retailers like cheapcycleparts, boats.net, etc., and though less than retail, there's some big corresponding jumps there as well and some others that don't seem to have updated prices yet

EC has all that stuff in reproductions at a fraction of the cost, but we still sell a lot of OEM Yamaha parts as well - Yikes!

Maybe it's temporary due to COVID affecting supply chain issues, who knows but wow that's a lot of cabbage for paper gaskets.

Economy Cycle / Economy Cycle Help Needed
September 19, 2021, 12:59:52 PM
As some of you probably know, I'm dealing with a hostile customer who's attacked Terry and I for weeks, posting his tirades on FB pages and business review sites and forums. He's threatened us in everyway possible from physical harm and death, personal insults, negative social media posts, legal, and business review sites including Google business reviews.

I always support the forum and its members and I always try to take the time to help guys with technical advice, product information, events, discounts, etc., and I've spoken to many of you over the years.

It would be very much appreciated if some of you would post a Google review of Economy Cycle. Here's a link below, just click on reviews on the right hand side of the page. Not asking for untruthful reviews or patronizing, just an honest review good or bad.
Thanks very much
John & Terry

Turning Wrenches / Pro-X Piston Clearance
July 08, 2021, 09:34:03 PM
What's the general consensus of piston to wall clearance for Pro-x pistons in an AC RD? There is no acutal spec as these are technically watercooled pistons. I've always used .002 for most rebores. Both Scott Clough and Garrett have done lots of boring for me and .002 was ok with them as well. Confirmed that again with Scott today. And Chuck Q has posted here saying .0019-.002 is fine as well.

I'm dealing with quite the shit storm on the air cooled UK forum with some of them insisting .002 is wrong causing piston slap and should be per the original Yamaha spec of .0015 and the've told my customer the same as well.

They diagnosed this from a cell phone video the customer posted, the bike had no cyl/head dampers.

And of course my customer now thinks his bike had a bad bore job thanks to them and is busy dragging me online in at least 2 forums in spite of the fact his bike runs great.

I've never ran away from these kinds of issue becuase I want to do the best job possible for my customers and if I'm wrong I'll man up and fix it for free, I just don't think I'm wrong and .002 is quite acceptable.

Had a bike come in with RD350 high top caps and slides on low top carbs. Says it's not running well. Anyone have any experience running that set up? would it even work? I don't want to waste time trying to tune it and my plan is to just replace the caps/slides and cable with all lowtop stuff. Just wondering if anyone's running it or knows anything about it or is it just cobbled together mismatched parts. I don't recall seeing it before.

General Chatter / Need to ID this rotor

Trying to figure out what bike uses this rotor. It looks like a Daytona rotor but the Daytona has square-ish holes in the hub vs these round ones.

Turning Wrenches / Oil starvation or 4 corners
April 30, 2020, 03:29:33 PM
Helping a customer in Australia diagnose a siezure. This looks like a 4 corner seize from a tight bore or oil starvation, and I'm leaning torwards 4 corner. I asked for some more pictures w/top and underside but assuming those areas are fine, what you do guys think? says his pump is working fine.
