General Chatter / New Mazda 2 stroke
October 02, 2023, 02:00:47 PM
This is, in my opinion crazy cool. Thinking way out side of the box and using existing ideas all the same time.

I personally have never seen this. I have never seen anything even close to this. To me it really shows a great view and sound of riding on of these.

General Chatter / Ducati. F-ing me?
November 18, 2022, 07:59:48 AM
I wanted a Ducati for a long time. Wife told me to get one around Aug 2022. I looked all over and fell into one while I was in Detroit. A 2022 V2 Panigale. I had Ducati of Detroit put on an Arrow slip-on to remove the Euro 5, they added a servo delete and did a flash tune (Brent tuning).
Flash to last week, getting off the freeway I noted an oil light come on. I stopped thinking maybe oil level. Bike only has 4200 miles but still, stopped. Oil perfect. So I started it back up and went on. The light came back on so I stopped and called my son and trailered the bike back home. Called Ducati of ATL, they said likely just a sensor. I did a flash back to "stock" to be sure there was nothing in the flash that was causing this and no, same after a very short ride.
I took it in to Ducati of ATL. 5 days later I got call saying there is copper in my oil, likely a bearing failure at 4200 miles. I though well SHIT, but still under warranty. Next sentence was, and Ducati declined to even look to see what the issue is due to an aftermarket flash. I called Ducati to have a discussion about this and they said the technical director for North America will be calling me to explain "how an aftermarket flash can cause bearing material in the oil" and "why they declined the warranty". Not how it did but how it could.
The Ducati head tech at ATL told me he does not see this would be the case and seems more likely a manufacturing failure. Ducati of Detroit who did the mods tells me, they cannot just deny a warranty claim just based on the fact you have done a non-manufacture mod.  He believes they need to make the case my mod was directly the cause of the failure, or this was his understanding of the law. He was an area service manager for Ducati for 11 years, but he is not sure and wished me good luck.
The good news is, I have the money to get this rebuilt or have a crashed bike motor put in (about 2800-3200 for motor only). But this is under my skin and cannot seem to get over it. It has consumed me for the past week.
If anyone knows warranty law, I would be glad to take a lesson.

General Chatter / Near Miss. As close as you can get
October 07, 2022, 10:25:42 AM
I had not taken my Ducati up to the mountains yet. I went up Wed for a day of riding and to spend the night. I stayed in Robbinsville. I went for a ride over the gap, 2 parts of the foothills parkway. Had a small lunch and turned around. I was taking my time, riding alone and not wanting a huge ticket. I was in shock after I never seen it coming until it was WAY to late to do anything. I made a short vid of this.

Turning Wrenches / Low Power
August 23, 2022, 10:12:10 AM
Hello,
I have been trying to find were my power went to for some time now.
When it was done, it was about the same as Chucks bike in power. 63HP on the dyno. When I rode Chucks bike at the gap, I knew I was not just dreaming, it is for sure down on power.
The bike starts no issues, revs cleanly. It just is way down on power especially one it hits the power band.

Just before the gap this year, I noticed a ripped intake manifold. I was able to get a replacement and it was on for the event.
Still down on power.

Chuck checked the following:
Timing- he said it can use some more but ok
jetting including air jets. we went through many combinations none made a difference you could tell.
removed the heads to check pistons. heads were perfect no carbon. piston tops looked great. you could still see the hash marks on the cylinder walls.
I changed to a non 0-ring chain but nothing.
When I got home I rented economy cycles leak down checker. It would not hold even 1 PSI, found the crossover was leaking. Fixed that and no leaks but no more power.
I am out of ideas. Do you guys have any? I miss my bike...

Thanks
Paul

The 4-Stroke Blasphemy Forum / First test ride
November 25, 2021, 07:36:35 AM
I have. Wanted a Ducati for a long time. 3 weeks ago over breakfast my wife said go get one. Just sell a bike. After thinking or over for a week I called the dealership. They did not have the bike I wanted. Q1 maybe come put a deposit and get in line. Same within 500 miles.
Ok so be it. Not surprised with the state of affairs lately.
I was in Detroit for work Friday after stoping by the job site i was going to at the next day and I  passed right by Ducati of Detroit.
U turn. I had not been to a dealership yet.
They not only had the V2 I was looking for but had another one for test rides and asked me to test ride it. Bad idea. I had not ridden a modern sports bike ever. As expected loved it.
I put a deposit to hold it until that Tuesday so I can take some time to think clearly (ok and be sure my wife was not going to kick me out of the house) Lot of money for a toy. But I did it. They are preparing it. It was just out of box. They are going to add an aftermarket exhaust air filter and dyno tune it to un-euro 5 it.

I have seen this from the FJ form I am on. There is going to be a 4 day event at the Iron Horse Lodge near the hotel we stay at for the 2 stroke meet. Sep 23-27. I have made a reservation for 23-26. I will take me RD and FJ up. Sounds like a lot of fun if anyone wants to attend I have added the link below.

Show Off / SPA day with Mr. Supertune.
July 19, 2020, 01:27:33 PM
After having my bike with a painter for 3 months I got sick of him and removed it from him and took to a local shop by me. They finished it in a few weeks and did, I think a good job.
First ride a managed to melt my piston. So I sent the whole back to Chuck for an autopsy and get repaired.
the timing moved by several degrees for some unknown reason and that was that.
Chuck bored it got new forged pistons etc.
unknown to me Chuck but the bike through a nice SPA day (or days) and did several upgrades that I have wanted to have done.
My rear fender was a MESS bent, dented and the guy I got it from used a wire wheel to try and remove the rust. Chuck removed about a inch, welded it back together and had it painted. Addend LED lights.
Changed the headlight bucket for a chrome one and put LED light in, and same turn signals.
also added fiberglass front fender and fork brace.

Powder coated side covers, changed throttle to domino dual pull throttle assembly, new rear disk, drilled and GP style mount for caliper.
and the biggest upgrade of them all new blue dot caliper and massive rotor!
Quite a pleasant surprise when he pulled up to my house Friday morning.
We rode around 300 miles and had a great time, great food, great friends and riding 2 strokes.  It does not get much better that that.

this is the seat I want, exactly. If anyone knows this guy, or where to get this seat at, let me know.
Someone knows him, I found this photo on the Kawi site under the gap.

Haus of Projects / Off to paint
December 03, 2019, 09:08:43 AM
I have been wanting to paint by 76 400 from the day I got it but never was what I wanted in terms of performance. After that was all fixed by Chuck.
I was looking for graphics I liked. Stock are nice but I always liked that 70s yellow/black.
Chuck was able to design/have made some graphics I really like a lot. The tank, side covers and graphics are at the painters as of this morning.
can't wait for the results.

General Chatter / Yamaha 0026 Competition Yellow
September 16, 2019, 09:44:44 AM
Getting ready to paint my tank and side covers. Found a painter last week.
Chuck has hooked me up with some great graphics I will put on and have cleared over.
Does anyone know the paint code for Yamaha 0026 Competition Yellow? I have seen a few things on line and one company saying they sell it but I was hoping to get something close enough so the painter can just mix it up.

Thanks.

General Chatter / Tires for RD400
April 09, 2019, 08:40:57 AM
So I was looking at my tires on my RD thinking about next months DG event and thought to look at the date code on the tires. 4010. So I assume this is the 40th week of 2010 making the tires well over 8 years old. the bike set for a few years so they are not worn but I no longer trust them being that old.
Seems there are 2 main choices battlax or Avon. I was going to order at Economy Cycle with there discount code.
I have had no issues with my current tires but always looking for something with great grip not mileage.
what are you preferences?
