I forgot to mention to remove the valve core so the air pressure can build faster, giving that extra push.

Make sure the inside of the rim is clean and smooth, especially where the tire has to slip up onto the bead area of the rim.  I have a wire brush wheel in an old drill that I clean and polish tube type rims with.  Tubeless rims are usually no issue, but tube type seem to grow a layer of oxidation and old rubber bits.  If it is sunny and warm, leave the tire(s) in the sun for 30min or so to soften up.  And use a good tire mounting lubricant, not dish soap.  I use 'Murphys tire and tube mounting compound'.  12-15psi is all it ever takes.

What has worked for me is: using my air powered impact (same one I take lug nuts off with), I have the forks completely assembled, fork cap on the floor and applying pressure, and use the impact on a 'low' setting, start by Tightening the bolt a few 'hammers' of the impact wrench.  Then switch to 'loosen'.  And keep doing this process.  Tighten-loosen-tighten-loosen, etc.  That has always worked for me.  Have not tried this using a newer battery powered impact, but that may work as well.

Turning Wrenches / Re: Tabbed washer alternative

I put studs in my hub.  Probably got them from McMaster.  They 'usually' have a longer and shorter threaded side, with a non-threaded area in the middle.  I threaded the longer side into the hub, with locktite.  The non-threaded area makes the sprocket nice and snug.  For nuts, I use genuine Yamaha nuts from an R6, R1, etc.  They are 10mm and have 'Fuji Locks'.  That is the metal type of locking mechanism inside the nut.  They are reusable (nylocks are supposed to be only used once  ) and used genuine Yamaha sets are cheap and plentiful on ebay.  You can also get lots of swanky different colors aftermarket (that's why there are lots of original sets for sale  )

Quote from: RDryan on January 27, 2024, 08:55:50 PMJust outta curiosity I keep wondering if the r5 was ever used in a Hollywood movie?...

In the opening few minutes of 'On Any Sunday' there is a guy in a suit riding a white and gold DS7.  And in the Amazon series 'Wayne', the main characters head from Boston to Ocala, Fl on what looks like an R5 or DS7.  although it is a bit of a bodge bike as the sidecovers look to be off a different bike.

Calling that stuff 'flood damaged' is a bit of a stretch.  There is no fresh water over at that part of the state.  His motorcycles were covered in sea water.  Literally sitting at the bottom of the ocean for 3-4 days.  No thanks, at any price.

It's not like Ducati is trying to win through numbers. Other factories just aren't stepping up, and Ducati is putting one and two year old bikes on the grid. Yamaha has always been a crappy company when it comes to satellite teams. Tech3 never got factory bikes, even when they offered to pay for them. RNF kept getting one year deals, which makes it tough to secure a sponsorship. Suzuki never offered bikes to a satellite team. So limiting the number of Ducatis  just means you're gonna have less bikes on the grid.  Even by Ducati admits it is  tough for them to keep that many bikes supported.

Also ran through a spider web (happens all the time down here) and found one of these crawling around under my helmet visor

Paid off and picked this up on Saturday.  2022 Scott Spark.  First outing on Sunday.  Great fun.  Problem is the engine is 60 years old and seriously down on power!

Thanks for Scott's #.  I need to ask him about the O-Ring size / brand he
uses on his RD250, o-ring head modification.
I am assuming it is a McMaster-Carr part.
Thanks, Jeff

Should be '039' o-ring. That is pretty much a universal number for that part/size. Same size as OEM Yamaha TZ230/350 o-rings.

Dangerous to grind nonferrous with a stone.

What makes it "Dangerous"  :umm:  Stones load up=PIA.  And of course proper ventilation, hearing, breathing, and eye protection are Strongly recommended.  But for this particular solution/application (what this post is about) the only 'danger' is knocking over your beer.  :guinness:

You think taking a die grinder and carefully making the head gasket hole bigger is the way to fix them?

That is a perfect solution.
