That really is something different, great video.  :thumbs:However it fills us viewers with suspense, so many questions....I wonder what it weighs? They mentioned something about it being a "stroker motor" so also wondering about its power?

Did you look into Rottweiler Performance?...those guys seem to be the go to for KTM streetbikes.

Yup.  They sell the PC6 with their tune for your setup for $480

I went by my local dyno guy's shop today. He quoted me around $400 to do a custom map on his dyno.  He said he does lots of "super single" roadrace 690s and 690/701 enduros.

More than I wanted to spend, but at least I know it'll be perfect.

That sounds like a deal, I mean it's not cheap but a savings of 80$ and plus you get genuine tuning time on the dyno with a trained experienced tech has to be the better deal. You can look at this way and I imagine it's been going "this way" for the whole deal is that with these newer bikes all the modern tech they have being fuel injected with the latest in computer integrated software it's a one and done deal. No messing with carbs.

is the 5 still available? better make sure, they discontinued it for most bikes because DJ got in trouble with the federal government. if you get a 6, prepare for some headaches. took me 4 mos to get the one for my cb1100 right.

and, fwiw, i ordered a 5 and got a 6. it was a whole fucking debacle. Good luck.

I found a PC5 for $300 shipped compared to $480 for the PC6.

As far as I can tell, the only diff 'tween the 5 and 6 is the range of adjustment.  Pro Dynojet tuners can override it if needed.

I found an off the shelf tune on dynojet.com that looks like it may be close (different brand of slipon, and complete airbox delete), so I'll prob try that one to start then take it to the guy down the street to fine tune on his dyno.  Or maybe he has one saved that fits my setup?  Gonna check in with him later this week.

So I take it you'd rather have the Aprilia?...Maybe a wiser choice. Like many others I've been looking at the souped up RD/RZ and I think it looks awesome, I love the paint scheme, wouldn't change a thing but maybe just touch it up here and there. No kickstart on that motor though makes it challenging to ride in real world situations. Such as you stop by a buddies for more than say a half hour and the motor cools down and there's no steep downhill....or you stall her at a stoplight.

Yep, the Aprilia is what I a hoping to get at this point. It is on island, so I won't have to consider shipping costs.  I am getting a little push back from my wife.  I told her after this bike, I will sale a bike before getting any others.

By the way, I didn't even think of the no kick starter scenarios that could occur with the rd/tz bike.  I am definitely getting to old for that.

Yeah just taking a guess having no easy way to start it maybe the rub for a lot of folks. I'm not a serious buyer, I could be if I sold a bike or two that I don't use LOL. I will say that I keep an eye out for the bikes I lust to have, don't we all?....so yeah no kickstart was my first observation and second to that was no air filters but that's no big deal but then I just wonder in what state of condition the motor is in and where to get parts as it is a race motor and kinda rare. I guess it's no different than the Aprilia?, you would just have to inquire with the right owners groups but bikes that have been sitting no matter how well kept, so they say... I think sometimes it could get more expensive on top of the 7k cost of just acquiring that particular one.

@ ryan, a blaster motor was my 1st thought for the grom swap before i put the suzuki motor in it. they are tough little motors for sure.
i think the whippets had a blaster based, but liquid cooled  motor.  (SDR200)

Oh yeah that's right I don't quite remember reading about that SDR200 but I do remember that liquid cooled version of the blaster motor. I maybe it was in a dualsport bike?...OK just googled it, I totally forgot about it. The DT200, it was imported to Canada however and without brushing up on too much of it's history now I know the appeal of it regarding the Blaster crowd. As a stock blaster engine only put out something like 17hp and those liquid cooled versions were literally double the hp. Ha,ha didn't know about that whippet though it sounded familiar. Well I do also remember that with a aftermarket pipe and jetting mods and a Vito's 240 bigbore kit the blaster could be modded to put out a claimed 34hp as well. Although upon googling that I see it's still out there and kinda pricey, all in with a pipe it's like a thousand bucks and really don't know how reliable it is at that point plus I thought I recall folks saying that it necessitated using a high octane race fuel. I remember thinking well that's cool but if I were looking for more power the 250 motocross bike motor swap just seemed better in the long run and after all that I just had all the fun I could ever want outta a blaster. LOL.

Yeah the blaster motor in your Grom might've been a fun result, simple air cooled but kinda boring in my opinion however it would be interesting just to see if it could be livened up powering a much lighter bike. However that Suzuki motor seems so much sweeter all the way around. Being liquid cooled and bigger displacement.

I will admit some fun times were had on my Blaster. Being all stock it would keep up with 450cc four stroke quads as well a certain Honda TRX250 two stroke out on tighter single track trails. It was a pretty rev happy little motor in a short wheel base atv so it seemingly had a great power to weight ratio although I don't think that was quite the case.

I actually have a 2003 Blaster. I parked it right outside my front door in running condition. It was a fun little thing at the time and for about three or four years I would just take rips on it here and there having fun in my yard and the neighborhood. Really tough 200cc two stroke, I parked it running but she's sat for at least several years now. Not seized which is amazing but left totally wet. I dunno what to say I got bored of it and never tried to part with it and now it's a sorry looking site. Would need a total rebuild but it's all there. When I was more into it I would see folks do this and that for more power. A popular mod was putting a Honda CR250 engine in em and there was a guy that put a YZ400 in one. However there is a lot of cheap rebuild stuff for the stock motor on Ebay, not a particularly powerful engine but maybe a good potential powerplant for something else. Me saying that as I am not into atv's

General Chatter / Re: Manual
March 20, 2023, 07:37:58 AM
Ha,ha to think driving stick is the only limiting factor in a potential car theft. I have a friend who claims manual transmissions are millennial proof. Last October I bought myself my first new car. It's not much to brag about except to say that I was reluctant to fix my old car that I had for four years and while I loved it (5 speed) I was going to have to replace the flex pipes in the exhaust for a second time and she burned oil and the a/c needed to be repaired as well, the car was a money pit but I loved driving it, made money with it(2009 subie outback). Anyways it seemed like a good idea at the time and the timing was right, I think to get a new car. So I traded in my old car for a 2023 subie crosstrek with a 6 speed manual transmission. Nothing like a new car, everything works perfectly and that 6 speed gearbox is just so slick to operate. The car is pretty gutless with 150hp but rev it out in 2nd,3rd and 4th gear to tick over 4k rpms and she gets right up to legal highway speeds. It's a car the does a bit of everything but not much very well and still achieves 27 avg. mpg. so for me that's a win but I guess it's the last year Subaru will offer a manual transmission for this car and really not many new cars have manual transmission options. In a way this car is very reminiscent of my relatively stock rd250, it's kinda slow but just well balanced and very fun, to drive like the rd250 is to ride. I found a pic on the web of my car and finally figured out how to make it my avatar here, my car is the same color, ice silver. The car in my avatar is fully decked out with a two inch lift, oversize tires and extra lights, mud flaps, heavy duty bumpers and a winch. Kinda neat what folks do to em, they call it a overlander although Idk if I would do much four wheeling with a crosstrek, they just have a cult following much like the vw bugs or for us the rd's.

Ok just found this old ad (2021) of a 66' that sold on BAT for big money or at least the auction states at 19k...is that what they go for? :umm: well there was a video of the seller firing it up so that's cool to see and hear. I find the differences between this 1966 and the original post of the 1968 interesting, like the gas tanks for example. Not sure what's more original?

The Margay is an enduro kart and it's a different manufacturer than the Rupp. They're both awesome (and pieces of history).
Depending on the model, engine config, and condition most of vintage racing karts I've seen in the last few years go for between $5K (single engine) and $15K (dual engine).
Although there are a few that brought big money.

Wow, I had no idea.there's a commodity for every toy for sure but it's all good, I'm luving it and learning. Seriously I can see as you point out the difference in the Margay compared the Rupp. If I didn't know better...that Margay maybe a bit more rare?
