General Chatter / Re: RZ350R
November 03, 2022, 12:53:20 PM
The only 350R's with the twin headlights that I've ever seen mentioned were in Brazil, or imported from there. Always thought that they were made in Brazil after the rest of the world stopped getting them.

Turning Wrenches / Re: 78rd400 trans?
October 31, 2022, 11:50:33 PM
I finally found the 400 trans I have in my parts stash. The 4th pinion gear definitely has more drag than the other gear. This trans has not been in a running engine in well over 20 years, but it is fairly clean and the other gears spin easily.

High compression motors with lots of timing can kick back when starting if you kick them like a girl and dont follow all the way through and break the case. This shouldn't be the case with a stock motor.

Clean everything up really well. There may have been some crap or old dirty oil in there.

Check that the idler gear is not wobbly and the washer and clip are in place. same with the tach drive gear

Probably a good idea to take all the gears off the shaft and check whats going on  in there.

The 4-Stroke Blasphemy Forum / Re: Nissan figaro

There was a place in town that imported those as well as the Delica 4*4's.
Restaurant in Kits had 5 Figaro's parked outside to attract people. Cool little cars

They sure are pretty, but there will be no $1000 heads on my bike(s)

Yup!  That's a lot to pay for a look with (from what I understand) no performance gain!

In the old ads Ive seen from DG they claimed something like 8hp from the heads and 12 or 13 hp from the pipes. Not sure where they came up with that though because the pipes I had made nowhere near that.

General Chatter / Re: Is the market going south?

I have to admit that I dont see any value in that. The amount of time and effort required to get any return is huge. Even if it was free and you already had the space to store it. Most of that stuff is most likely unusable

Turning Wrenches / Re: piston skirt ring
October 19, 2022, 09:23:57 PM
Most performance 4 stroke pistons dont have very much skirt at all. On a 2 stroke I dont think it will do anything at all to stop piston slap, just add drag.
Anyway there is already a tried and proven way of preventing piston slap by running proper clearances and putting in new pistons when worn.

This guy has some CAD files for TZ stuff available through grabcad for free.
Not sure if this helps anyone.

Those were pretty common in South Africa back in the 80's. There was also a Suzuki that looks exactly the same

Turning Wrenches / Re: Gasket Material

I keep some gasket material to make gaskets if I dont have time to wait for delivery. Local autoparts selection is hit and miss but amazon and ebay have a good selection id thicknesses.

Something looks weird, maybe its the seat or the fairing.
