Turning Wrenches / Stuck ring?
Last post by paul1478 - March 28, 2024, 10:45:51 AM
76 RD400. Stage 2 Chuck build. Forged Wiseco pistons.
My bike had been down on power for a while.
I have an appt with DR Quinzler on the 6th to swap pistons in hopes of fixing the issue.
I noticed when I took the top end off only the upper ring was free. I see a bottom one but it is stuck tight to the piston. Bolts sides. This cannot be right can it?
I also noticed what looks to be oil on the crank does not look like 2 stroke oil.
It has been sitting for months.

for those that don't know, the rabbit is a benchmark of my family, my last name directly translates to 'hare' in German.

Yes, i know i look like a cast member of the sopranos in most pics, but my father is about as German as you can get.

A client of mine bought his Vape directly from Europe for a GT500 PEI system, but the kit was incorrect and they could not work out how to fix the spacing issue.  I contacted Dan at RE-MX and half expected him to tell me to piss off as he didn't sell the unit, but he was extremely helpful and solved the issue and sent me the necessary parts at no cost.

I would strongly recommend buying Vape products from RE-MX.  He knows what he is talking about and goes above and beyond the call to make it right. I will not buy directly from VAPE again or other suppliers. Re-MX is the place to go.

Quote from: IR8D8R on March 26, 2024, 01:56:22 PMThat is really gorgeous! Have you run it? It's almost too pretty to get dirty.

There is a link above with it running.

Quote from: m in sc on March 26, 2024, 02:26:22 PMwhats the little dovetail inset in the base for?

Good eye.  The stand doubles as a static display and also for running.  There it a piece recessed in the bottom that comes out from static and gets stood upright so it can get clamped in a vise to run.  The dovetail piece conceals the hex wrench and 2 longer screws to change over.  There is 2 spring loaded ball detents that keep it held in place.

I hope this isn't a stupid question. Have you performed a leak down test on her?
