Just Get some Spec II F-1 pipes they come with power, can type style and will fit the stock pegs as long as you don't order tucked up race clearance pipes.

For a good project, or learning experience, it's definitely worth it to modify the DG pipes. But from what I've learned from the other guys that have modified theirs, is that the performance gain is no where near what you'll get from just buying a better set of pipes..
I've had 3 bikes with unmodified DGs , my first RD400 when I was 18( DGs were $200 new then...) an R5 with RD top end, and my current RD400. All three ran great with the DGs but once I put a set of MotoCarrera Millennium pipes on this 400, the DGs are on a hook in the shed and will most likely stay there...

You could also use the existing silencers to fashion new ones. A bit heavy but others have done it. Complete the final cone, add stinger, and weld er up.. this way you have the look of the separate silencer.

Please post pics and info if you do decide to go ahead with it, we need the info on board for future members.  :righteous:

um, not for style , the dgs dont have a stinger out of the final cone to the muffler. so it goes to an open chamber then gets pushed out of the muffler, which is terrible. adding the stinger does help, ive done a few sets myself.

OK, I should have been more careful with my words there.  The DGs I have seen modified typically have a mismatch in the rear cone and wrong diameter stinger.  Yes, if they are properly modified there's a potential for a small power improvement, but not a lot given the amount of work.

I have done the squeezed down end cone on a set of J&R Power Pipes to replace the stock oversized stinger and will also get rid of the slight step to the muffler section but I'm not expecting much, if any, change in performance.

My RZ has old type Spec11 pipes and I wouldn't change those for the world. Great street pipes, but for a cheap pipe DGs are not bad.  Pity they are not as cheap as they used to be.
