I have this crane scale and the engine hoist was out so I decided to weigh the bike and why not? There's no gas in the tank but the battery is in and the oil is in the transmission.
For some basic calibration, I weighed myself and it agreed with the bathroom scales to a pounds and a half.

i know mine is at 230 with a custom frame and lots of titanium and half a tank of fuel. so, 275-280 tracks w a stock frame.

Right, nearly all the low hanging fruit has been picked (seasonal metaphor)
220lbs is impressive and I'm sure," hard earned

230. yeah. was more of an engineering project.

I can say this much, its almost too light.

You may lose a pound, maybe more, if you convert the rear brake to cable actuation, like rear drum brake TR/TZ models.
If the headlight has a glass lens, a H4 alternative with a plastic lens used to be available from EC or HVC.
If your caliper is the oem cast iron one, EC used to have alloy repop calipers.

blue dot caliper, fzr rotor and adapters still lighter yet and work better. as far as the rear..if retaining stovk linkage i agree, cabke lighter. rearsets, depending, not always the case

Since it was an ex race bike, I assume it already had 520 chain and sprockets? If not, going from the stock 530 setup will also save quite a bit of weight. Especially with a Supersprox or all alloy rear sprocket.

I was only considering rearsets when recommending cable actuation. The stock brake pedal shaft including inside lever, bracket and all linkage components become redundant when using a cable. The cable itself weighs more or less the same as the stock brake stay, and just connects directly to the pedal. Only additional part required is a bracket for the wheel end of the cable outer.

the vintage smoke rearsets dont use any of the stock linkage. so much lighter than a conventional rearset.

That is indeed a sensible approach. Any experience with that setup? Especially how the brake behaves over bumps/ with suspension movement?

my lightweight has them. they are fine actually

Our RD350 weighs 242 ready to race but without water in the radiator.  The frame is about 60% stock and 40% chrome moly.  The almost stock rear hub weighs about a ton though.

And the GT750 weighs a portly 314.  probably 10 pounds could come out of the front forks and wheel with a little work.

How heavy is just the GT750 engine...the one I have still under my bench feels like a ton.
Have you had either of those up at Martin 131 to the AMSNOW event yet?
They both look ready to rock :metal:

My TS/TM400 sits at 208, with 3/4 tank ready to roll. Going to the dyno on the 14th.
The VJ21SP sits at 286 with 3/4 tank.
Best dyno pull was over 70 at rear tire...going back to dyno on the 14th.
The VJ23SP sits at 281 with half tank. Best dyno pull was 61 at the rear tire....
