How many RPMs is too much?

So I have limited experience building two strokes, and have a general question.
I have a 73 rd350, and put pipes on it. I want to make it safe to rev a bit past red line, as I plan to rebuild the engine in about a year, and want to start collecting parts.
According to the dyno sheets from the pipe maker, the power falls off about 9500rpm. I have been told that the points get unhappy at 10k, and the factory electronics deteriorate hard at 10k.
Its no racebike, and rarely revs past 9k. Is it still necessary to make upgrades like a vitos crank, (which I was thinking of doing either way), and electronic ignition?

nah its fine but you'll have to service it a bit more often vs a stocker. thats it. 11k is the zone of death on stock pistons. shit gets weird up there and theres no point in revving it that high anyway.

at minimum get a dyna ignition but as many on here have stated, a cdi is the way to go. hpi or vape.

whos the pipe maker?

That reminds me of a buddy who sold his 1993 Arctic Cat El Tigre 530. He said the guy that bought it was all mad when he found out the sled had a bad miss at 100 mph.

My buddy laughed at him and said that thing does 100?

Pipes are wicked motorsport. I have been posting on other threads about ignitions, and like the look of the vape, but I think points are cool and would love to just keep them.
I have noticed that even though I haven't put many miles on this, and I got good points, it still needed a bit of adjustment.
But are you saying I'll be fine for rebuilding the engine, or running stock ignition?

high revving will kill points, but if you like em keep em. 2 of my bikes with vape cdis are stock motors, not even chambers. its not just the ignition, its the whole charging system. the excited field alternator will not live too long at 10k plus these days since the windings are 50 years old, also it relies on carbon brushes to turn the field on and off.  BUT, it can last a while. just be advised its very hard on electrical components.

The earlier 80s El Tigre's with the 500cc Suzuki had 85hp and did 90 mph+ easily. They were popular lake racing sleds where I grew up in Michigan. Did they detune the later models?
