Do any of you who sell on eBay ever have someone bid on something, win the item, and then ask that the sale be cancelled? It seems to happen every so often but is happening a little more frequently. These flake-out buyers are always overseas. I'm wondering if it's some sort of scam attempt or if they're just too dense to read the listing.

I had one today who placed a bid on an auction several days ago, won the auction, but instead of paying he asked for me to cancel the sale because the shipping was too expensive. :umm: Kind of odd since the shipping cost is clearly stated in the listing.

I just had one that bid at the last second and won the auction. Never heard anything again from them, sent an invoice, Ebay contacted them, had to wait 4 days and then offered the item to the next highest bidder. I don't see any way to give them negative feedback but explained what they did in positive feedback. Their address was CA.

My stated shipping policy is I only ship to continental 48 United States. You can also state any bidder with less than "x" number of positive feedbacks must contact you before bidding or they will be cancelled.

Thats why I call it fleabay.

Don't get me wrong, I've accidentally purchased something impulsively without doing all my homework and asked to cancel before but not at that frequency.

same here. not worth the hassle to ship overseas thru ebay .. especially w rd parts. I sell very, very little on ebay but when i do its us only

I haven't had that exact experience, no, but I paid full asking price for a lawnmower part and the seller refunded me within a day with the stock reason "missing or damaged". He relisted the item a day later, same pictures and description, but tripled the shipping. I sent the seller messages asking what the problem was, and got the reply: "You're the problem". I left 'em negative feedback, but they haven't left me any yet. Fleabay indeed.
I post waayyy too much

I've never had one cancel then I read this post and two hours later I got a sale and a cancel.

Hahaha. Life is weird.

I've had numerous cancellations on parts I got good deals on as a buyer.

Relisted the part and it sold to the same person.

No idea what's going on with that one.

that sounds frustrating  :bang: Don't they have to request you allow them to cancel? Bidding and winning is a binding sale according to eBay rules IIRC. Might be time to block that bidder and/or report them to eBay if they don't follow through.

When my buyer (in India) requested to cancel I sent him a message confirming the cancellation and suggested that he should not have placed a bid if the shipping cost was too expensive. He replied that the shipping cost was not visible when he placed his bid. I find that extremely hard to believe. His explanation still doesn't make sense, because why would you bid on something that you have no idea how much it costs?
:bs:
In any case, that item and it's matching listing are now US domestic only.

I've been that guy and asked to cancel Buy It Now items before. But, I've always reached out and asked, if they say no, then oh well.

ebay scams are bad enough but Facebook Reels is the go-to place for scam adverts. High priced items at low cost - web sites created to support the scam with fake reviews - website and cash disappear after the scam dries up - chance of getting money back: zero.

I have things to sell.
I want to sell things like it was 10(or more)years ago on Ebay, when things made more sense.
I can only hope a much better online store opens-up,because I am motivated to sell certain things I've been sitting on for years.

I actually hope someone can shut-down Ebay;purchase the company, get rid of all the staff, and after a while of 'cleaning house',put up adds describing 'Under New Management'.
I would start listing right away.
