So the cable inside the speedometer cable sheath fell out of the sheath and I'm not sure which way it goes back in. Does the little washer on the wire go at the top by the instrument panel or at the bottom by the wheel?  It seems like it should go at the top to keep the cable wire from falling out.

Thanks,
Karen

I'm not familiar with the washer you're referring to, but you can try going to a site like BikeBandit.com and look a the fische for your bike. It should show you where it goes.
I've used their fische for the RD400 "jigsaw puzzle" I'm rebuilding for my brother.
It's helped me many times with proper parts placement.

Both tach and speedo cables have a little washer on one end, the speedo one goes to the gear drive at the wheel, same for the tach cable, goes to the tach drive on the top of the rear cases.

Does this also apply to the RD350? I just pulled mine out to clean it and noticed the little washer is on the speedo side. Maybe it was originally put on backwards??

the cable will work either way but the way chuck stated is correct. I'm not pucky but I like to make sure the cable doesn't fall out when I remove it from the tach or speedo drive
