My rd400 throttle won't return on its own. I've lubed the cables but no luck. The throttle tube doesn't look worn. Does it simply just need a new cable set? Is there anything else it could be before I go buy one?

Did you disassemble the cable at the splitter and check all the wires?

Carbs are clean and the slides are not gummed up?
Right control pod and throttle tube is not slid onto the handlebar too far causing binding?

I just disassembled the 3 way splitter and cleaned/ lubed it and it still feels the same. Who knows how old the cable is. I've also disassembled the throttle and cleaned it there before with no luck. Time to throw a new cable and tube on. Is reproduction stuff ok or should I go for oem?

ive had decent luck with reproduction cables. others haven't. Ive gotten all mine from economy cycle.  sure it snot int he throttle? if the grim migrates it can hit the end of the bar or the throttle housing. Look there 1st. .02

Shopping around at economy cycle and noticed they list a throttle grip washer. Mine was missing so I will try one of those and new repro throttle cable this spring and see how that feels
