location is everything. my aunts house in long Island at roughly 1000sf in a 5th acre is worth almost 2 million. which is fkn  insane

Yeah it's interesting. That part of the country has no appeal to me but I just think what a can of worms it must be to get in and out of there being so close to NYC. I know Long Island is a huge place though and the appeal is it's suburban feel outside of the big city.

Has your aunt lived there a long time? and if so I imagine she must be pretty surprised with the home value skyrocketing over the years. Hopefully she's safe and secure with that, not a victim of gentrification.

lived on LI all her life, they bought that house in 1964 when she got married. thats about 4 miles from where i was born and spent the 1st decade of my life.  that area was always suburbia, still is.

The American dream, nothing wrong with that. Also nice being close to the ocean. I do ask myself if I would miss the ocean leaving my hometown. I just don't know.
