Does the engine have to come completely out in order to replace the motor mounts?
Or can it be raised or moved enough while in location.

RD400.

Thanks for any help.

OK.

Did the job this past Monday.

Took tank off, & disconnected Carb boots from air box.
Plenty of room to left

Jacked motor up & removed bolts.
Maneuvered engine around an got all (7) mounts out.

Could not get last mount out by chain.
Motor was hitting rear bottom frame.

Needed another 1/2" but chain was too tight.
Undid chain tensioner, and it came out.

Most of them could be taken out by hand without any problem. Others just a little screwdriver to start the pry-out.

New ones had to be tapped in.
Put all in back in place, but it was too late to start & test drive.

For as cheap as they are, I would replace them every time motor is out, or when you can, if other stuff arises.  Worst ones were the lower rear = those are the ones that came out with fingers.

Rode the bike a few times after mount replacement
Still alot of vibration.  Handlebar rubber bushings replaced as well.

Is this normal for an RD, or do the mounts need to get broken in.

RD 400 do not suffer from a lot of vibration even when being raced.  Could you have solidly mounted exhaust pipes?
