I've seen DC voltage regulators
Seems like what I would like for my application

HPI sells one actually, specifically for their unit. IF i were to go dc, thats the way i would go. 02

Hello again,

I am building another RD.  This one is an R5 motor converted to 6 speed in a 400 frame.  The bike is going to need to have lights as it will be street legal.

Just running a headlight and taillight.  I am planning on doing what was mentioned in this post to run the lights by ungrounding the lighting coil.  Do i need anything else from Treatland.  I was  not planning on using a battery in the wiring on this bike.

I was going to buy the following:

1. HPI CDI mini rotor ignition system for yamaha RD250, DS7, RD350, YR5, RD400, this version has an integrated 60W light coil for super bright lights!! great curve and comes with all you need to make the change. plus you can adjust your stator anytime even with the flywheel mounted!

2. trail tech dial-a-brightness AC voltage regulator

As always thanks for all the help from this forum.

thats what i initially ran. i later swapped it to a full wave dc rr. this one. its def a smoother signal less flickering. no battery.

Thanks, I use the provided linked eBay regulator instead of the trail tech regulator, as it has a smoother signal with less flickering.

That works out good as Treat land is out of the Trail Tech regulators.

Thanks again, for all the knowledge.

no prob.

just unground('float') that winding wire, add a wire to the end of that, and each ac lead goes to each yellow wire. then red and black are obvious .

Thanks for the explanation on how to wire it that would have been my next question.
