I'm running the HPI on my race DS7, works great so far. The lighting coil is small, but I think with LED lights and such it could be made to work on the street.

The HPI rotor is very light and that is supposed to improve crank life in track use.
thats what i did. if i was running a battery woud be ok using regular bulb, but at idle no good w out battery..

I run the powerdynamo on my TZ with no battery and it does fine on the street, even at idle and low speeds. I see no reason to use a battery with it.

Agreed. The only reason is if one wants to use the stock ignition and kill switch. Then a battery is needed to power the relay used to ground the "kill" wire on the CDI when ignition or killswitch is off.
Using an ignition lock and kill switch from a bike with magneto CDI or magneto points ignition would solve that issue.

I use a dirt bike style "kill button" and I also have a hidden toggle that I can use if I'm parked somewhere and I want to kill the ignition totally.
