Noobie here. Picked up a '74 RD350 with DG pipes (and obviously no center stand). Was wondering what stands will work for the bike?

Hopefully something solid with a decent grip on the bike. ( https://www.sportbiketrackgear.com/motorcycle-stand-buyers-guide/ )

I did call a couple brands but didn't get a confidence inspiring response.

I have one of the Venom cheepie stands that they sell on amazon and it works fine. I did add spools to my swingarm though

Well, I had to Google what 'spools' are. I don't think that's an option on my bike ... or any older bike. Don't know where or how you would mount them.

I've prowled a couple boards / sites and see mention of 'pad lifts' ? Anyone using them and how solid of a grip do they put on the bike?

they can be welded on. but, what I use is a regular pit bull type stand w flat bar pads.   however, even this is a bit iffy. they typically aren't offered for old bikes because they came with center stands. 02

Bump.

To any RD350 drivers on here ... with after market pipes and no center stand. What are you using for a bike stand?

Is there maybe an accessory end piece that will mate up to an existing stand to make it grab onto the swing arm securely. (No spools and not going to think of welding any on).

Thx

For a temp stand run a straight bar through the center stand mount holes, you can fab something to wedge under the bar for a stand.

Go to a local flattrack race and look at what the racers are using. When I raced, I had a simple stand that had a cradle made of a piece of pipe cut in half lengthwise. This I put under the bottom frame tube, below the countershaft sprocket, then pushed down on the long lever: presto! If you put a bolt through the centerstand brackets, it would work in lieu of the frame tube. 'Course, this is more welding than adding threaded bosses to the swingarm for spools...
I post waayyy too much

I use a front end stand typically used for modern sportbikes. It's narrow enough that it gets under the swingarm with no issues.
Here's a quick pic of the type I use...

I can get you a pic of mine, with the bike on it this afternoon

You can also use spools on the lower shock mount bolts if you use longer bolts or cap head screws.

They work with many stands as long as the stand clears the pipes or can be modified to clear the pipes.
