I'm guessing by the lack of responses to my post in the eBay/craigslist section that $1000 for a non-running r5 or   ds7 is too much. Unless they are really nice, i think that's a lot. After an engine overhaul etc I'm thinking another grand to get it right, unless the cranks are fine, then $500 or so for miscellany and resell for $2-3k? Am I living I a fantasy world? I got my basket case for $100 and it's pretty rough. Had the crank done and bought pistons and rings and seals/gaskets and a bunch of other stuff so have some idea of the cost to get these going properly.  Is a decent looking stocker with rebuilt engine gonna sell for $2500?
Every day above ground is a good one.

Unfortunately logic doesn't always come into these things either.  A motorcycle that is priced at $1000 that would cost $2000 in parts only before labor to turn into a $2500 motorcycle will have people climbing over each other to buy potentially a total piece of junk whereas the fully restored bike priced at $2200 (free labor, priced slightly under market) may take months to sell.

Thankfully parts are relatively easy to find for hte RD/R5.  Wish I could say the same of the LC/TZR these days.

I'm not seeing them for less than 1000$ anymore. my limit is 600$ for a non runner. I'm out of the game. how could it make any sense when you can get a running r6, cbr600, GSXR, cr450r or ninja of your choice for 1000$ any day of the week with a local search. fraction of the cost twice the hp of a worked 2t motor. last bike I bought was a 250 ninja basket for 350$, they rev over 10 grand get 75 mpg @ 39hp stock.

just depends what you want and what its worth to you.  I can outrun most muscle cars in my v6 suv crossover, 305 hp and more tech than you can throw a stick at.  However, my falcon, maverick, and galaxie give me lots more satisfaction when im driving them. to each their own.

I'm a bit off because I get my satifaction wrenching not riding. any bike I've get personal with gives me satifaction. I disagree about the hours I put into my projects. winter is winter and I don't mind the scavanger hunt. you know how I feel about 2t's I own three. I'm just not seeing rd baskets in my price range. super happy with my cb led batteryless lane splitter. every biker gives me thumbs up. already got pulled over and got a ticket for a non dot helmet, my welcome to cafe builds. I get a sick satifaction every time I roll open the throttle on the pz30's. what a joke. they run a bit lean but they are dialed in close enough to be stupid fun. cant believe how well the led conversion works, for $18 bucks total. so bright without a battery. 360 turd is a lot faster stripped down. for me its not about money. its the satisfaction of doing it myself and being told after I do it it can't be done. restomods are fun. I have a 45 year old bike that runs like new. first kick every time daily driver and not some bullshit battey tender antique.

there is a market for old 2t's what they go for is what they are worth. non running rd's are now 2500$ and up in my area. I've been priced out but thats just me.

Well, the guy called me and gave me the old "don't buy these to fix up and sell, you won't make any money," guidance, which I didn't ask for, so I told him never mind. Going to meet him wasn't something I was going to enjoy. If he'd have minded his own business, I may have bought them just because I like to make old things work and pass them along, hopefully covering my costs and riding them a little in the meantime Oh well. :taz: :busey:

Old posts here, but more "modern" insight.

Newer stuff is what other's say.

Older stuff is just cool and challenging.
