:metal: sweet. looking forward to seeing this.
Ian,
If you get it running for the gap...expect to take off the topend at the end of the week to pack up in the truck to head back to Florida to get ported and heads redone!!
Chuck
That would be the first thing I did, except that ja moo has the "real " top end, its getting head rework, bore, reeds, and a port!!
Oh yeah, REEDS!! Perfect setup for that from JA-MOO...
that is great work, and those pipes look sweet on that frame
keep posting
:righteous:
Here some pics on the progress, got the pipes all finish welded up! Frame was modified greatly, I had help from an amazing fabricator so I cant take all the credit, but I did my share! Wiring is next, then (hopefully) some testing!!!
 That's looking nice!
"Bundle of Snakes" Chambers looks cool!
I'm making strides on thisbike! Got my cables made, rebuilt the oil pump and check valves. I have the "real" engine in! Top end is on the way from Moo. If everything goes well I should have it running(in an unfinished state) for the gap! Pic of the engine in frame :

I need a shorter tach cable, does anyone know if an s3 cable is shorter?
Looks really good. Going to be a blast to ride.

:righteous: perfect thanks for the link, I ordered one!
That's a great resource!
Wish we had something like this for Yamaha parts: http://www.kawatriple.com/partid/partid.htm
Whew! The big day was Monday with the arrival of my top end from Moo! What an awesome bit of engineering the reeds are, fit and finish was impeccable. Started it on the iv , second kick! After some carb tuning I got all 3 singing nicely. Timing is next then a few odds and ends and TEST RIDE!!!!! Pics below
Beautiful work! :patriot: :patriot: :patriot:
Nice job. Hope to see it next month
Looking good! :righteous: Neutral is on the top....... ;)

Awsome!
Yeah, takes a bit of getting used to.

A quick test ride revealed a pretty substantial air leak at one manifold. Unfortunately for me it blew up that side! I was gutted! I have a new piston coming, I honed the cylinder, it's got a few scuffs but most of it came off in the first 30 seconds. Hard lesson to learn, but always pressure test your new motors! I may have been a little heavy on the throttle too, I just cant seem to break that habit.....

Ah man, what a bummer! :( That sucks!
BEEN THERE. that sucks... at least it didnt wipe the crank
All in all it's not terrible, the cylinder is scored, the worst spot is below the ring range mostly so with a new piston i think it'll be ok. I was super bummed when it happened but once I figured out why things got much better for my psyche ! John is going to mend the offending manifolds ( I found the right was leaking too) and I should be back on track!
All back together and running nicely, No air leaks!!!! Its pouring rain or I'd be riding it right now. One more pic

Link to a video of it running before a ride!
Sounds good Ian and looking forward to seeing it in a couple weeks.
Got to love John's reed engine setups!
Will be fun to ride...

:metal: thanks guys, cant wait to see everyone at the dragon!
She does sound sweet! :righteous:
I put 30 or so miles on this thing and it flat out flys! Sure does vibrate alot, I need to make a better seat. There is a terrible sound that happens at about 6k. I took the heads off and can confidently say it is not detonating. I think it might be my pipes vibrating against each other, there is about 1/4 inch between them but they are on rubber and can move a bit. Its tight down under there. I think I might try to wedge a piece of inner tube in there temporarily and see if it stops. Whoohoo it runs like a scalded dog! Also I think the tank paint turned out quite nice!
There you go! Fun time! :righteous: Triples vibrate a lot. A good vacuum sync, and slide sync helps a lot, but still.
During my ride yesterday I had more than one upshift that grabbed 2 gears. Example: 1st to 3rd, or 1st to like 2.5. My rearset shifter ratio is likely a little high compared to stock. I found a mod on the KTOG page and I'm proud to say I pulled it off! I welded on a little piece from another shift shaft (I think it was from my yamaha r3) that holds the drum in place until the shifter "resets" works excellent! It's like a modern bike shift shaft now! Pic below :metal:
There you go!
Heres a 2020 update on my h1 hybrid. I'm going with the classic white and blue stripe paintwork. I think it turned out stellar! Also going back to the stock seat and rear bodywork. Heres some pics including one of my freshly "modified" center pipe lol
The white/blue looks great! OUCH on that pipe!
What a cool bike! I dig the new paint.
Plus 1 on paint scheme, first time I've seen this thread great build I put Banshee engine in GS500 a couple of years ago.
Paint turned out great. the green was OK but this looks the part...
yeah, the body work looks wayyyyy better.
Thanks guys, I never liked the way it looked, and the riding position was not ideal. I think the stock seat will really help. Heres one more pic with the panel and tail light on
Nice! It went from pretty to a sexy beast! :righteous: :metal: :taz:
