I stripped the barbecue paint off my Milleniums yesterday for a repaint.
I used Xylene, which worked great on the bodies but the paint on the head pipes was extremely difficult to remove. I assume it's because it's super cured from the heat.
These pipes were ceramic coated when brand new, but that didn't really hold up visually after a few years.
There is an upside, I found the rear mounting tab on one pipe is ripping, so it's off to the welder for a quick repair. Glad I found it now...

This is when they were brand new in 2016 just after ceramic coating....(PipePornAlert)

They look new now.
since youre in there, get some grommets to isolate the back of the pipes.
I have used this before in a spray gun and it holds up pretty good. Spray gun lets you lay down a thicker coat than a rattle can and gives a nice satin finish.
Nice job. How long ago was the ceramic coat applied?
I thought that was a "permanent" finish. I guess not.
They were coated when new in 2016. I was going for a chrome-like look. It WAS good for a few years but the finish started showing stains from gas, oil, etc so I painted them during the last full tear down in 2019. You can see that at three years old they were already looking a bit shabby.
The process used at the time was Cerakote iirc.

I have had to use Aircraft Paint remover on some things.
Works good, but gloves & dont smell
I finally got back to the pipes. I have a load of side work coming and realized if I didn't get these done the spring will get away from me. At least now they are ready for reinstalling when I get a rainy garage day...

Wow, those look great!
Excellent job on your pipes Ed! Nice!
Love your dog too BTW. If I'd known that, we would have talked GSDs last year at the Gap! Here's mine:
Those look great! I like the outdoor spray setup.
Evans - the big male is my daughters, we are sitting him for two weeks while she's on her honeymoon. Meanwhile, his five month old female cousin became available and my daughter had me pick her up, site unseen. She's her now with us, but she will go home on Sunday. The big guy isn't bonded with her yet though.....Maybe she will stay here!

Finally ready for spring. Saw a window today for garage time.
All set, I was dying to fire it up but the pipe sealant needs a day to set up.
Spit polished, battery charged, oil changed, heads torqued, aluminum polished, carb leak resolved, pipes repaired and painted.

Unfortunately no, Garret closed his biz about a year ago and quit making the Moto Carrera pipes. However, I do kind of recall John at Economy mentioning something about a deal in the works for Economy Cycle to take over the production in the near future. Maybe he'll see this and comment on the status of that.
EDIT: Found the comment from John about taking over the pipe production https://www.2strokeworld.net/forum/index.php?topic=5605.msg47471#msg47471
Reach out to him and ask about it
Hey thanks for the update
I didn't know that .
It seems with each passing year more and more shops are closing. Seesh kinda sad.
At this rate who is going to remain.
I have emailed John but what are my alternate options

We still plan on doing them, but no timeline at the moment. I'll definitely announce them when the time is right.
