1994 Yamaha TZR 250 SPR 3XV
Absolutely fantastic example of the last of the 2stroke 250cc Yamaha super sport bikes! Incredibly rare bike that was never sold in the US market during production. Powered by the proven single-axis crank 90-degree V-twin engine that adopted "Triple YPVS" for finely tuned exhaust control, a new type of carburetor (during the 90's) and a cassette-type wide-ratio transmission. This bike has been on display in a high-end collection for about a year and a half and is ready for a new owner. The bike has recently been started and run for the first time since it was imported - see video for cold start.

Here are some key features of this bike:
-Fantastic visual condition for a bike that is nearly 30 years old
-Starts easily, and runs great (see cold start video from this week)
-Clean PA title! Very rare for this bike to have a US title.
-Fuel tank is spotless
-All lights and horn work properly
-New battery
-Temp gauge or sensor may need to be addressed as the needle did not move during my test ride.
-Only 9513 KM = 5911 Miles
-Tons of tread left on the Rosso II tires
-Minor scuffs on each fairing, small paint repair on edge of front fender and one paint blemish on frame near swingarm pivot (see images)

The more I thought about this listing the more some statements in the description raised a red flag...
"The bike has recently been started and run for the first time since it was imported"
"Clean PA title"
"5911 Miles"
"As a licensed motorcycle dealer, I can complete all necessary paperwork with the DMV for California Residents only to transfer a titled motorcycle into your name. You will receive your new title in the mail and avoid a trip to the DMV - Fees will apply."
:umm: how's he doing this? Unless he's telling the DMV that the 9513 on the gauge is miles not kms. It's usually a problem if less than 7500mi. And how is he getting around the issue of the 9-digit VIN for a post-1981 model?

Look at the price on this one....

Once again a clean 3XV, a base model in this case....but this one is not 100% original for that price...
Makes me wonder what I should do with my SP, if these actually sell at some point.

I only know one person who used to own a TZR250, and he regrets selling it! Weather permitting, ride that SP today and you'll have your answer.

Wade's right, you know.

I had a '91 R model in Kocinski livery as above.  It was a fantastic bike and every time I see a pic of one, I deeply regret selling the one I had.

It fell into my lap, really.  I had posted a "TZR wanted" post on a Vintage Scooter BBS (remember those?)years earlier, and out of the blue, I received an email saying "I know where one is, you should contact the guy and see if he'll sell it".

As with a few of my other bikes, this example had been smuggled into the country with a returning serviceman's belongings and had no paperwork.  The current owner/seller was a Sacramento County Sherrif who wasn't willing to perjure himself to get it titled, and was looking to offload it.  Sight unseen, I had a friend in Sac hand the cop $4200 and store it for me for a couple months til I could get down there and pick it up.

I rode the hell out of it for maybe 5 years. Many trackdays, and many weekend rides out to eastern Oregon.  Even in stock "restricted" 45hp form it was a joy to ride, and handled better than anything I'd ridden before, or since.

I didn't have the $1500(ish) needed for porting and pipes (or 4DP TZ top end) to get from stock 45hp to it's 60+hp true potential, so I sold it for $5500 (this was probably 2014?) and got a Triumph Daytona 675.

I had a lot of fun and went really fast on that 675, but I really should have kept the TZR.  I would have saved a lot of money in the long run, as I wouldn't have wasted my time fcuking around with that horrible KH400 or this damn RD350LC.

The V-twin TZR makes tons of midrange compared to the inline twin engines before it.  If you have one, don't be like me.  You'll regret it too.

I understand what you mean.
I guess in my case I have a few too many strokers to keep up on, and not that many good years left to ride.
The thought of a Aprilia RSV4 1100 has been haunting me ever since I got back from Bonneville....217hp at the crank out of the box...
Something has to go to afford it.....probably my RZV.
