Garrett, I'm just up the freeway from you in Chehalis...lots of water on the ground here this last weekend!
Jim, I'm sure you're right. I was probably focused on the brake setup.

Turning Wrenches / On the importance of cush hubs
December 22, 2019, 09:59:05 AM
Today I want to know how important y'all believe a cushioned sprocket hub to be on a road-going motorcycle. I was reminded of this question by what I believe to be a KTM rear hub in that Motolana swingarm pictured in another thread.
Generally, street bikes have 'em and dirt bikes don't...but my TZ doesn't, and there are scores of dual-sports without them. I've asked a friend who has had plates on a couple of dirt bikes and he has had no problems.
To put a fine point on it, is there concern of long-term wear or damage to the transmission caused by use of a non-cushioned rear hub riding on pavement?

Since this thread has kind of gone astray anyway... that's an un-cushioned KTM hub and brake nestled in that Motolana swingarm, isn't it friends and neighbors?

That's priceless ad copy! I hate it when my rear wheel wants to do it's own
thing...

Well. It appears that I must either give up sleeping or my job as there is too much good stuff available to read!

Any chance of saving your cylinder bore with muriatic acid? I've only tried it once, but it worked for me.

Looking forward to more about this! Approaching a similar transformation with an RD myself, and although my mono shock design is different , I'm interested to see how you worked it out. Which Ninja is the suspension donor?

Turning Wrenches / Re: Brake stay mounting point

I don't know what the advantage, if any, of this system is; I was hoping someone would chime in with an explanation! As a last resort, I will open a book. I have a couple out in the barn that I think might address this. Maybe it's just another way of doing things. Regardless of where it's anchored, I find I like the look of the caliper under the swingarm.

I'm just exploring options at this point. I've seen it done both ways and there must be a reason for each. A fixed, non-pivoting caliper does seem to be the norm.
