I have the green light to go to the Gap in May. I (we) need to book very very soon, places are selling out.
So, who is committed, who is thinking about it. More importantly where are you staying? It would be great to know where people are staying and create our own vibe.
Personally I like a cabin spot at one of these MC friendly places. It looks like places are generally between 80-150 a night. Again, if there are already some 'friendlies' booked, post where you'll be. What I've seen so far is:
Robbinsville:
Iron Horse
Dragon Rest Cabins
Bryson:
Nathalie Village
Waynesville:
Oak Park Inn
for a cabin I'd recommend:

have stayed there MANY times. And a gas station, right there. Looking fwd to seeing you . :patriot:
Hope to get a room at HQ- DGMR.
DGMR is *sold out* according to their website
What are the dates?

Kawi2strokes reserves and takes all 14 rooms. They are posted up for grabs later.
Every year I've been planning and hoping to attend and every year something or other gets in the way. Apparently, this year will be no different. The meet is the same week as the Spring Feathercraft Meet that my wife and I attend and thoroughly enjoy each year. Fwiw, Feathercrafts are aluminum pleasure boats that were made in Atlanta from '46 to the late '60's. GREAT group of people on the FC forum that I'm proud to be associated with. I've no doubt that I'd feel the same way about the attendees of the Two Stroke meet if I were to attend it. Sorry, but I'm out. :(
Hoping for a room at the resort.

5/15/22- 5/22/22.
Come a few days early (May 13&14), and take in the Possum Gathering in Sevierville. A friend of mine puts it on. Had a great turn-out last year despite threatening weather and first year glitches. Big venue with lots of room for swap setups. https://www.facebook.com/The-Possum-Motorcycle-Gathering-102149428371995
you definitely need to hit the 2 stroke meet at least once. my suggestion: aim for tues - thurs. best days and usually the most people present. this year is #21 for me, ive only missed 1.
I'm saving for a wedding. I doubt I'd make it. :(
I took Marks advice. I'm BOOKED at Fontana Village, scored a cabin. I'm staying Sunday, May 15 until Thursday May 19. Gives me three full days of festivities...
you're going to love it. see you there. we roll in on Sunday, out house is off hwy 129 near tapoco lodge but i usually linger at the main resort at the gap. :whoop:
Well surprise text from Chuck last night.
He will be going to the meet this year. He is on the computer this morning getting a room. It was great to hear he will be going.

That is good news Paul! I was hoping Chuck could make it and wondered about if he'd get to come or not?
If my ciphering is correct all 14 rooms are reserved. Might be a new record 4 minutes. :metal: :metal:
I didn't want to horn in on the triples guys, check out Fontana Village, the RD's can have a 'thing' there...

They'll be as many or more Yamaha twins at DGMR than Kaw Triples. :thumbs:I got a room at DGMR which is considered HQ's for the event. Look me up! :gentleman:
oh thats great news!
Ah man! I'm getting this bike done and coming down. Vacation needed.
what thing do we have at fontana? i wasnt invited. :dawg:
truth is, the triple board releases the rooms so the kaw guys typically get 1st dibs due to info proximity. which is fine. :gentleman: Cause brady snores and he'll keep you guys up all night.. the yamaha guys need their beauty rest. :toot:
Looks like I'm sleeping in my trailer again. Unless someone no-shows or takes pity on me and gives me an extra bunk. I snore.
I will provide free Tennessee whiskey and parts cleaner. All you can drink...
IR8D8R
we will get you inside I am sure. Your fun to be with.
And now for the bad news...
Foothills parkway between hwy 129 and hwy 321 will be closed next month through August for resurfacing, new guardrails, general maintenance etc.
The "new" portion between 321 and Wear's Valley Rd will still be open but you'll have to go through Maryville by 411 to 321 or the back way around the park via hwy 28 through Bryson city to Cherokee and 441 to get to Gatlinburg end of 441 etc. There are some nice roads to make a loop back including the Little River Gorge.
Locals are unhappy. On the bright side: We will have new pavement in 2023! The old road is starting to get crumbly in spots. At least it's not 129 they decided to pave... Although it needs it bad.
IR8D8R
coming thru maryville i will probably get to see some of you guys coming in . my hometown and nice place to live. i will have my rz and rd ready to ride. looking forward to meeting some of the guys from here.
I'm in Mervul over by Pistol Creek and Foothills Elementary school. I've been here for (counting fingers) Gawd. 9 years now.
IR8D8R
hahahaha that's cool. less than a half a mile from. can't believe i haven't ran into ya!?!? im usually on a orange 75 rd350 or an "ultra rare" :blah: :blah: KR rz350. occasionally on my 74 z1. when i get back in the country i will look you up!!!
I keep thinking I hear 2-strokes going up Sandy Springs Rd from time to time.
hahaha that would be me !!!
My brother & I are planning to swing by Deals Gap on Saturday May 21st. I know its the tail end of the event. Will there still be some activity or will most of you be headed home?
There will still be plenty of people there. Most of us stay until Sunday morning.
Y'all know I'll be around.
But hell, I'm just now seeing this about the Happy Valley side of the parkway!?
Surely us locals can go up Montvale under the parkway and down through Happy Valley, right?

That's my plan. Coming from Clinton, I'd really rather not ride the RD400c on Pellissippi. Will probably trailer it to the big lot just as 129 starts to climb up from the lake and ride to DG from there.
i know i dont know anybody, but im gonna be in the area for myrtle beach bike week to see family.. and it looks like i may be close to having my rd finished.

sorry for the sizing.. i never had an rd, but been on the gap alot if its cool with yall
Anyone going to be staying at Fontana Motorcycle Resort? That's where I'm stationed. Listen for the yellow R5.
Ed
im sure there will be 2t people there, always is. we stay there on occasion, when we cant locate a house to rent.
also getting my stuff ready for Sunday drive up. Took the RD out for a spin and noticed a high idle.
Strange.
went home and thought well maybe I will just adjust it down a little. When I moved it to get the screwdriver in, NICE. Cracked manifold.
Friday noon before the weekend.
FUC....
Ducati down, RD down.
I called EC, and well well, guess who answered the phone. He has a set and can send overnight.
just pending his shipping guy to show up and pay for the overnight shipping.
So maybe just got away with this one
1. did not seize it
2. may still be able to ride this coming week
ouch! mark d has a cracked ontake on an rd as well, but hes skipping that bike this year. thing hes bringing an rg or something.
I might cruise through early in the week but, in light of my Buffalo still not being complete, I'll be in my Miata.
Nice turnout this early here at DG!
Cool!
VERY nice turnout for being so early in the week. The weather sure is cooperating.
Keep those pictures coming. I know I'm not the only one living vicariously through them. ;)
:olaf: more pics on real camera but so far great turnout!
 :bacon:
I headed over Tuesday and had a couple of good rides up and down the dragon on the mighty GT750. It was great to see the guys again and have time to relax and talk bikes.
NIce looking GT! Who's KR?

That is owned by my friend and roomie Shane. He is a member here but not sure if his user name is Retro 3 here or not? He is from Alabama and a good dude. Yes, it is a unique bike!
What a great week and Gap event this year! The weather was great, superb roads to ride as usual, great friends, etc.... Met and spent time with AAAltered/ Ed and since I had my Empi snail synchrometer with me, I synched his carbs on his beautiful bitsa Yamaha twin. Special thanks to Mark (m in sc) as well as his wife Angie for all he does and their hospitality. The guy from cycle drag was there and as a treat below is a link to what we experience there. And yes, I am the owner of the Kenny Rogers Edition RZ350. I didn't want to be on video but heard him out there from inside the room. Enjoy:

I've only seen Chuck Q once at Barber. Is that him near the beginning of the video, starting up his yellow RD, (which is different than before)?
If so, hope he is doing very well. My 400 is such a sweet riding bike after he did his update porting job.
Oh yeah, watched further. It is him. Excellent!

Yes, that's him and he's doing well.
Nice video! What a trip that would be.
pic dump from gap trip.

That's the best video from CycleDrag that I've watched so far! Nice seeing video of some of the guys I have chatted with on this and on the Kawi triple forums. The guy with the hard-starting RZ looks familiar.
lol. Tim Steele had just received that from Karl, I was just there providing assistance, and a RH foot. :toot:
this is my gap photo.
I had a great time as always. looking forward to next years event.
Paul- was that a traffic stop or did he just want to talk with you about your beautiful RD? :umm:
I passed him going the opposite direction (unmarked car) near the overlook.
On the way back he was at the 129 photo turnout.
Waved me in. Asked how fast I thought I was going so I say 35.
He did strep back and say nice bike. Be safe.
Cool photo and no ticket.
Remarkably I didn't see a single police the whole time I was there on any of the rides.
Thumbing my photos last night I found this, the obligatory overlook pic...

And Louisiana John from the Kawi board hamming it up on my R5 before blasting up 129...
(He though I was shooting stills, not video...)
I got a speeding ticket on my first day, got pulled over again after a harley waived me past. Warning the second time but I thought the police presence was high
