So, i had a generic switch on the lc for headlight control. wasn't great as the switch was down, low beam, middle, off, up high beam. there was a definite delay from low to high and was kind of fiddly. didn't like it.

. that being said, i used to run an r5 switch, and saved it. way back, i used the horn button hole to house a neutral light. i found that in the switch box, took it apart, and completely rewired it. cleaned contacts, hit it w matte clear, and added a 2-way momentary on switch with 'up' now working 'set' on the daytona gauge, and 'down' being mode. it centers automatically so, was perfect for this application and actually fit in the housing with a slight massage of the housing.

also needed to replace the 8" headlight bucket as the plastic housing cracked over time and needed to go. went (back) with one of the economy cycle/emgo headlights with an auxito led.

Now, im not a fan of daytonas, at all, but ffs look at what they did to this one.

Yes, it started as a 79. yes, it was complete, and fairly decent.

Yes, i know the owner AND it was built by a 'pro shop' local. motor internals are stock. Yes, when i found out the front end was getting swappe dout to a drum I tried talking them out of it. I also know there's over 12k spent on this.

Pictorial how to mod 384 v force reeds to fit in to an rd motor w out adding a reed spacer or grinding intake.

these will go right in w no other mods to the motor . the upside is it has double the reeds, and they are 1 pc. Ideal for running stock up to 30mm carbs.

stock:

reed petal width:

depth:

v force:

v force reed width:

bolt pattern not fitting:

drill holes , step the drilling . start with 7mm, then open up to 8.5mm Minimally, up to 9mm.

slow drill, go easy.

all drilled out:

open up the left and right ID of the reed stuffer on the v force with a round file. they are a bit small on the sides, you need to remove about 1/2-1mm per side.

install like stock unit, but use gasket between reed and intake as well. will need ot trim ears off  astock intake if you have one.
done. 4 petal c/f reeds.

The rules are pretty simple:

1: Should be motorcycle related

2: if it's your ad, disclose the fact that it is. (totally allowed)

3: if you find it AND POST IT HERE, SHARE THE FUCKING LISTING.  Don't probe the boards knowledge for valuations if you aren't going to buy.

4:if its ridiculous, put it in the 'insanity' thread unless its a specific reason why.

5: if its a board members listing, behave.

6: if you are a business and continually listing stuff here for exposure, just reach out to me and i'll give you a vendor sub-section. its free. then list your collectible beanie-babies there and sell to you die or get rich trying.

all other forum rules apply (see here) http://www.2strokeworld.net/forum/index.php?topic=24.0

https://www.oldbikemag.com.au/alex-campbell-self-made-racer/oba62-alex-campbell-13a/

saw this on FB in a group and seems legit. anybody have any deeper info on this?

"Have already mentioned this within a comment, but what I find to be quite an interesting fact about the TZ700 engine is that it was originally developed in my home town of Mount Gambier, South Australia, by Alex Campbell around 1970ish for a sidecar. It started as a pair of TR3 350s with gearboxes removed and crankshafts coupled, with the assembly bolted to a Manx Norton gearbox. Yamaha heard about it and sent a couple of engineers out to Mount Gambier, where they studied it, and later bought out the TZ700. Can read more about Alex Campbell and his motor on oldbikemag.com.au, by searching Alex Campbell."

since i run a TZ pump on mine, i never liked routing the coolant line under the reeds/over the cases, so whipped this up at lunch today. will finish it off at home (radius the edges, open up the top passage to match, etc).  this will allow me to run a hose over the top of the RH reed box with a 90 degree elbow aiming forward and down, pointing right at the outlet of the waterpump. this is for the impending motor refresh on the LC.  what i didnt show was i drilled the hole on the lathe 1st then used that to locate on the mill.  just a quick lunchtime project today. (the 90 degree fitting behind it was too low hanging to make it work, and really restrictive).

short ride yesterday, also checked out the new unopened (yet) exit 81 on I-77. (this is real close to my house). the rebuilt motor is running beautifully, can now hit about 65 and just all around fun to ride.

cop showed up as i was on way out thru the business park, but luckily didn't pull me, just followed me for about half a mile then went the other way.
