As said before the mpg and oil consumption have a decent ratio that allows a decent range on the pump without having to mix. I decided to rebuild my pump as I run Amsoil Dominator and don't want to intermix if I don't have to. My RD sat for about 4 yrs, because life, so I don't remember the exact ratio. I think I could at least get 2-3 tanks of fuel to each tank of oil. Now with chambers and re-jet I might even get more tanks of fuel! LoL!

I miss my 84 short bed chevy with 9" of lift, 38's and welded dana 60. Met and dated my wife in that truck and have been searching for it. Also want another 72 Pierre Cardin Javelin someday, which I sold to help fund my wedding. Good investment, but my wife wants to facilitate me having another someday

Thanks for the comments! Already experiencing so me issues. Doesn't want to start now. I think it lost spark. And the mounts are a bit flimsy, so I'll have to beef them up a bit.

Updates will be slow as I have other projects that are more important....to my wife  :haw:

Finally more progress made. Made engine mounts.

Rear is some 12 gauge 300 series stainless that is sandwiched between the plastic case halves. Has a hole drilled through and welded a 1/4-20 nut to it. Slotted a piece of 1/4" stainless to connect the rear of the engine to the frame, while having height adjustment in order to tension the chain.

The front mount is 12 gauge stainless that I drilled one regular hole, and slotted the other to accommodate chain tensioning as well. So far just bent in a vice, tacked on the mount, and tacked another piece of stainless 12 gauge to box the front mount a bit.

Also included pics of the twist throttle/kill switch.

Not much new due to other projects taking priority.

I got 6' of chain and a twist throttle/kill switch. Installed the twist throttle yesterday and routed the cable down the top tube along with the wires for kill switch.

I have yet to mount the engine though I have some ideas about how to do it. Either need to make adjustable mounts to ensure the chain is tight, or need to add a tensioner.

I bought a set of Moose springs from Economy. I'll see if I can dig up the package tomorrow. They work great and look good too.

I used the old GM V6(3.1 or 3.4 liter?) thermostat gasket to seal flanges to the cylinders, can't remember if I used sealant. Then some Permatex Ultra Black  on the exhaust joint. Haven't had it leak at all and very happy with the results.

Turning Wrenches / Re: RD350 gearing

Yep stock gearing was 15/40. John lists the 250/350 conversion as 14/39. He may have recommended the 15/39 combo, but I can't really remember what I bought anymore.

Joe, I am almost certain I running 190 mains, maybe 180. Honestly I plan on messing with jetting a little more this year and may have to adjust clip position. I think you may be onto something as it really pulled hard with 220's, but couldn't get it wide open without falling on it's face.

I won't mess with gearing for now. It may be that I was trying to cruise at too slow in top gear too.

Turning Wrenches / RD350 gearing
February 07, 2021, 06:15:03 PM
Bike is converted to 520 chain, 14/39 from Economy. I always felt stock gearing was pretty adequate for hauling my 250 lbs around. Since re-doing the top end, Dave F, filters, spacers, reeds, and DG chambers, along with 520 conversion I don't feel that 6th gear is all that useful anymore. Was considering going up a tooth or two on the rear, but this setup doesn't have many miles and don't want to buy another chain.

Would a 13 tooth wear ok and give enough of a noticeable difference in performance? I know reducing the front is probably a big compromise if I step too far down. From what I figure a 13/39 is equal to a 14/42.

yeah, id def start at 230 go from there. highest ive seen (claimed) on an rd with dave f mods was a 250 main.

Do you think the 35 pilots a bit high?

I don't think 35 pilots are out of the realm of reality. I may even step up to 35 this year.

I have Dave F mod tapped for air jets, individual UNI pods, TDR stage 2 reeds, crossover intakes and 1/4" thick spacers. I'm running 32.5 pilots now. Not ported and no head work.

I love the ingenuity of this project. I was pondering the direction change of the chain... if you put your powerplant above the rear wheel and behind the seat,
1) chain run is direct
2) center of gravity is better for wheelies
3) the whirling chains of death are no longer under yer balls
Just an idea

You're suggestions are valid!!

I've seen this done a few different ways on youtube, and many mount above the rear wheel and don't want to do that  😉.

Not sure if this little homeowner saw will make wheelie power with my 250 lbs anyway. And yeah, really afraid of the death chain lacerating my femoral, but have 450k+ in life insurance so at least my wife will be taken care of for a while.

Seriously not sure if this will work well yet, but excited to try. And I prefer chain drive as opposed to some of the friction drives that I've seen. Next time I may splurge for a sprocket conversion which mounts a sprocket on the left of the wheel and do a jack shaft with direct drive instead of a clutch. This way I can peddle start it. I think motorized bicycles are legal in WI if they retain pedals.

A bit more progress today. Attached derailer parts to the frame to change the chain direction. I was going to add sprockets to the crank, but decided to try this first. Started the engine mount, so far only have the engine strapped to it for looks.
