I was taking the RD up Hacienda road in the heights area and this kid in a WRX turbo braked suddenly in front of me and had no brake lights.  I swerved out of the way but then he decided to get in my lane.  So I swerved again and managed to dodge his car.  This all happened within a few seconds.  I think he didn't see me and didn't even look to see if that lane was clear.  It almost seems he wanted to ram into me.

I usually take my bike out in the early morning to avoid drivers and traffic but around 11am there's tons of cars on the road where I live.

I rode home put the bike in the garage and layed on the couch and contemplated of what might have been or could have happened. Sorry to rant about this guys but be careful out there.

Yea I had a similar thing happen to my RD crank as the lead weight fell out and rubbed up against the connecting rod.  I felt the engine lock up momentarily. It surprised me thought I seized. I too installed a vitos crank and I am very happy with the results.

Great work Marc.  You should be an RD fab specialist!

Just an update...I found another pressure plate from ebay and now everything went together like it should.  Works great no problems with drag or slippage.  Thanks for the help everyone.

Hello again!!

Well I figured out what the problem is.  I done a reverse image search on the pic above and found out it is a pressure plate for a DT400.  It was an honest mistake...I think.  He showed me a DT400 he's restoring and probably got the parts mixed up.  These images were snipped from ebay.

Hello there,

So it turns outs that I have the wrong pressure plate.  It does not seat all the way down. I bought the clutch assembly thru offer up.  It seems to hit the webs on the inner hub before it seats down all the way.  It looks different from the other late rd350 pressure plates.

thanks Marc.

Mine doesn't have the bearing retainer in the cases.  Is the bearing retainer needed?

Turning Wrenches / 7 plate clutch
December 07, 2023, 09:47:50 AM
Hello All,

I have an early rd350 motor and I am going to upgrade to 7 plate clutch.  The thrust washer shows 2 different part numbers on the breakout manual.  Is ok to go with either or?  It looks like the 278 part number is the washer with the bevel.  I was able to source a clutch hub and basket and all the steel plates.  I have new friction plates and springs.  Has anybody used the 278 part in a 7 plate clutch upgrade?

thanks

I know this is sort of off topic but last week some girl crashed into my new house/gate and was supposedly a victim of road rage.  I think she lied to the cops. The evidence points towards she was speeding and lost control.

I think these days, people in general are either really careless and have no respect to anybody or anything on the road.

To add insult, her mom came by and all she was worried about was the money and if I would sue her and how much it was going to cost to fix her daughters car...give a me break!!

I told her "Lady your 17 year old daughter was in a bad car accident and all you are worried about is the money, go be with your daughter because she's freaked out!!"  unbelievable!!

I'm glad you are ok from the accident.  It could have been alot worse.

I bought my R5 in the late 80s.  It was actually an RD with R5 tank, side covers and motor.  I damaged the side covers in an accident but the tank was ok.  I found an RD motor in a junk yard and rebuilt it.  Here it is with the original motocarrera expansion chambers.
