Engine turns over. Bike hasn't been started in a while. Body work is junk.

That depends. In some other states it might be worth a go but not here in California without a title.

There are a few things that I would be concerned about:

1) Seller states: "novice-raced in near stock trim for ~ 1 year then parked for the past ~20 years". Generally, race bikes get pretty abused. And I find it odd that it has 39K km on it, but the seller says it was only raced 1 year and then parked. There's something missing in this story.

2) With that much mileage, an unknown history, and since its been sitting the engine is going to have to be gone through and most likely rebuilt and that can be quite expensive.

3) It's going to need all new bodywork including a tank possibly (it looks like the seams may be damaged in the CL image) and that will be very expensive. It will also need all lights replaced and whatever else the owner removed, and parts that were damaged in race crashes. The shopping list cost will add up fast, especially for a gray-market bike.

4) "Still on Canadian paperwork."  No US title (for me this would be a deal killer)

An amazing machine and one I've listed after for many years. However, the cost and exclusivity of parts puts them out of my budget. Just a guess here, but I'd bet whoever buys this has 22-25K in it before it's decent. Again, just a GUESS on my part.
I would take a WW RG500 if anyone wants to give it away. You know, to take it off your hands. As a favor of course.

I was going to ballpark the all-in cost at about double the asking, so we're in agreement.

There was a WW model for sale on CL for a long time that the seller was asking low $30Ks for. It fell off the radar earlier this year.
