Number one tip is remove the backing before you apply. The directions usually say to apply with the backing on. Do not do this unless you want creases and bubbles.
I use rapid tac instead of soapy water, for me it works a bit better.
I usually eyeball the alignment but sometimes a piece of tape here or there might be needed as a landmark.
Make sure the tank and decal is nice and wet before you place the decal. It will "float" a bit but not much. Hold on both ends and touch down on the center first and sorta roll it down on both ends. If you didn't land it correctly pick it up and try again but first spray some more. Once down start in the middle and very gently rub with your finger mostly lengthwise to establish your position. If still looks good keep rubbing with finger to smooth it down slowly working your way lengthwise and gradually working height wise as well. Make sure you are pushing any creases or bubbles out towards the edges. Keep edges wet at all times! If a crease or bubble is beginning to become trapped or is too big to work out, gently pull up the edge and try that area again working out bubbles or creases with your finger. Light finger pressure only. You may need to carefully use a razor blade to lift edge. Keep spraying to keep edges and any areas not down yet wet. Eventually you should have it all down with no creases or bubbles. It's tricky. You have to be patient. Once it looks good, you can squeegee from the center out. Once you start using the squeegee you cant undo it.

I'm thinking an RD400 shouldn't be too bad. The ones with compound curves are the hard ones!

As for when to add decals, I do it after several coats of clear, sand, add decals, then more clear.  :twocents:

I have a Shark Kage ramp. It folds up and hangs off the back of the tailgate when loaded. I like it a lot but not sure if they are still around

Assuming you have sockets and wrenches, stuff for resto work:

JIS screwdrivers including impact driver
Sonic
Polishing wheel
Dremel
Flywheel puller
Case splitter
Crank puller
Bearing puller
Clutch holder
Heat gun
Good tire irons
Assortment of picks hooks and punches

You should be able to get most that for 600. Of course the list goes on from there

i very, very seriously looked at doing a 4 cyl S2 project. I've rebuilt my own crankshafts, to be honest, thats the easy part. the harder part is getting the crank cases back together , welded and keeping them straight, but still doable.   Im not taking anything away from mr millyard, to me one of his most impressive is the vtwin sl90.

That Honda vowing is my favorite one , but everything the guy does is pretty impressive.

Any feedback regarding the RF interference mentioned in some reviews of those Barrina lights? Losing the ability to listen to the radio would be a deal breaker!
This is a legit issue. I rarely listen to the radio, but when I do I stream from phone, laptop, etc. However, I have noticed the garage door opener remote is seeing some interference. Still works, but range is reduced and sometimes have to give it a couple tries before it works when these lights are on. Should clean up with some noise cancelling filters. I will see what I can find.

Kinda hard to tell, but on my original RD400 tank there does seem to be a light amount of clear over everything

I think that is right

I needed lights in the garage and after a quick web search, decided on these Barrina LED lights (based on good reviews). So far, I can recommend them. I put in 24 lights. They recommended you only link 8 lights max, so I did 3 circuits of 8. One set is connected to the garage door opener and lights when the door is operated or by the motion detector when you enter the garage from the house. The second set I connected via the overhead outlet and it is operated by a runlesswire switch and receiver. The third set was connected to the pre-existing light fixture circuit. I added a junction box and some cable raceway to clean up the look. The lights are 2200 lumens ea with a brightness of 6500k. They weigh nothing and give off very little heat.

https://keeptrack.store/

This guy is local to me and both track he is using he has custom made and patented. He told me he sells (on amazon?) diy kits but the price is pretty high.
You can also get the wire platform type shelf (this might be a better option for storing heavier items as long as you have enough legs to hold it) but I chose this system due to the clean look.
Originally I was planning on welding up my own brackets and doing this same thing, but after pricing materials and totes, it wasn't too much more to just have this guy do it.
The downside I would say is it is a little awkward to load/unload due to being overhead. I tried using a ladder but it was waaaay easier to just pull my truck in and stand in the bed.
The upside of course is I tossed out a ton of random boxes and totes where I previously had all this stuff stored and now I can use that space I freed up

Trying to get my garage fixed up so I can set up my work area (moved to this new house about 1.5 years ago, but been focused on home renovations). First thing was to get organized and find a better place to store all my bike parts. See pics for the solution.
