My fender got smashed and it busted all four of the mounting points on the fork lowers.

Anyone have suggestions for repair?  I'm thinking either JB weld or Alumiweld.

I would  consider having local whizz-kid welder fix it. But, JB weld works if you mix it correctly.

What about brazing?  You could stack up the material in the general area, drill and tap the hole, and grind down the outside to match the shape.

Prepare:

Drill small hole(s) in each member aligned with eachother
as many as you can without destroying the integrity
(2) at min.

Get a nail that is sloppy in the hole, & score up the nail circularly
Fill hole with JB, and also mating surfaces.
Clamp together

Clean out inside as much as you can, then re-tap

Polish after.

i could tig that up pretty easy, not a hard repair for somebody that can weld. and dress it. jb will crack, that bolt sees more stress than most realize as the fender acts as a fork brace.

Hawaii-Mike

Milan I had to read yours twice to comprehend.

Mark - I don't have easy access to a welder but I do have something similar to Alumiweld.  I might try that - just build it up enough to hold onto the bolts and tap.

Most every place on the planet has a TIG welder with someone that can use it well nearby. A front fender coming off at speed could be quite catastrophic.

KH400 - to keep costs down I would try any old busted up forks with the threads holding the fender intact.

I have forks from my 73 kh400, i'm swappping wheels and suspension. Tubes are good just a couple rust spots hidden by triple clamps. Cheap plus postage from Oklahoma.

Hi Luke,

I only need the lowers, though if the fork tubes are in good shape (not rusted) they might be worth keeping.  I will send you a PM.
