Show Off / My new 2stroke toy...........
January 21, 2023, 10:53:39 PM
It looks brand new because it is, NOS TZ250T, I have some very nice go faster parts for it. I think I will put all the stock stuff away, I have a Yamaha Factory works motor for it,  NOS 17" wheel set, 4.5X17 rear and 3.5x17 front, the stockers are a 18X3.5 rear and a 17X3.0 front the slicks are original and unscuffed I want to keep them NOS  I also have a front end / brakes.  I can keep all of that NOS.

Yes I knew/knew they are DG's just an observation that they look like Toomey copies

They will be too long, they are for an EX650, due to the additional weight of the XS I believe they are also thicker-walled.  You can get Daytona tubes on E-bay for a reasonable price, there are several different supplier options on E-bay, Chinese and also Italian.  I ordered a set from E-bay they were fine (can't remember what vendor, I can try and check).

Check www.fastfromthepast.com, I think Jim sells a high-quality Italian tube (He is VERY picky about the quality of parts he represents, he does a lot of checking and testing of anything he carries) he also carries quite a few RD/RZ  parts including ignitions.  He is a source to be trusted!!!

Also Forks By Frank, they are a US source but comes at an additional cost.

Turning Wrenches / Re: Do ya want Webco heads?
January 18, 2023, 11:55:45 AM
I chatted with the guy making the Billet Webco's in India,  I am impressed with them and he can do custom chambers for an additional fee.  He can provide 250, 350 and 400 heads.  He has several different combustion chamber designs.  Heads a machined from Billet 6061 T6.

I already have the US spec castings, about to have them machined for a race 250 and 400 motors with toroidal combustion chambers. If I did not have the castings I would buy from him.  He has done some impressive motor work on a drag bike he built including a lockup clutch.

I belive the pricing works out to about 600/set + shipping, your choice of gold, clear and I think black annodize

His RD350 head specifications:

Yamaha RD350 Webco Spec Billet Heads / 21.3cc Volume each cylinder / Agressive squash  / 55% Under Squash & 45% area Under chamber bowl  (Toridial Cumbustion Chamber) / High Quality Viton O - Rings Replace the copper gasket / Need 3/4 Inch reach spark plugs (Like NGK B8ES)

you can contact him on Facebook,  Vinay Kadam

I think Suzuki is like Yamaha, they have used that slightly courser spline for years.  I use GSXR rear sets on my RD race bike, I have to change the the shift shaft arm to a Yamaha spline.  Look for a "Suzuki" shifter and see if if fits.

Nice job, it looks like it came that way from the factory.

Looks light but agree, I think the seat is unsafe, have a tank slapper or lose the rear and slide off the back, damn it would be painful on your manly bits

General Chatter / Re: Namura Pistons

Virtually all Aluminum is "best and purest"  based on the application.  One of the issues with Namura RD pistons is the skirt and window profile.

I have built pipes like them, feel free to E-mail me any questions.

The headers have pretty course segments,  they have the typical old-school routing that pushes the center section back.  They don't look optimum to me.

Turning Wrenches / Re: 1975 Yamaha RD350 fork swap
January 15, 2023, 04:09:44 PM
For a period performance upgrade the 1979 and 1980 RD400 35mm forks are the easiest to improve internally.  The RZ350 emulators are a direct fit, the only other modification is to drill out the existing compression holes to .312 or 8mm and add one more set.   If anyone wants details feel free to contact me.  I ran a TZ front end with RD400 inner tubes and damper rods, and race tech emulators.  I can offer advice on spring rates, in the race bike I run straight wound that might be a little harsh on the street.

Race Discussions / Daytona 200 2023
January 15, 2023, 03:46:45 PM
The iconic Daytona 200, March 9 - 11.  I will be working the race with a couple of buddies...  it will be interesting to see where we get put.  Chicane or Turn 1 are normally pretty active.
