So I was looking at my tires on my RD thinking about next months DG event and thought to look at the date code on the tires. 4010. So I assume this is the 40th week of 2010 making the tires well over 8 years old. the bike set for a few years so they are not worn but I no longer trust them being that old.
Seems there are 2 main choices battlax or Avon. I was going to order at Economy Cycle with there discount code.
I have had no issues with my current tires but always looking for something with great grip not mileage.
what are you preferences?
avons, a bit stickier. BTs are very good but feel wise i prefer the avon am26's.
Thanks.
Seems they only have the 90/90/18 for the front.
seems the required size is 100/90-18 (3.25 x 18).
does it make a difference?
I ran a 90 on my rz and it was great. so... ? up to you. however: https://www.jpcycles.com/product/210-171/avon-am26-roadrider-100-90-18-front-rear-tire
Conti Attack Classic.
18" Radials.
Pricey though.
I've not seen those. thanks.
fyi just ask john im sure he can get them for you. :twocents:
If you're interested in the Bridgestones, there's a very good rebate offer going on until the end of April- $60 back for when you buy front and rear. I bought a set through DennisKirk.com. After the rebate, the cost was under $115. That price included the tire fee and shipping!
Wow that's a heck of a price!
The best tires for RDs is the 90/90-18 front and 110/80-18 rear. Most road racers use those sizes. Avons are the best for both wet and dry with Conti's second in the dry and poor in the wet. Be careful buying from internet dealers, many times their tires are old; unused, but dated. I can get your Avons or Contis from the distributor in Pennsylvania that are fresh. Write me if you want prices.

^^^ Lyn is a great source for fair prices and recent production date Avons and Contis. :twocents:
I currently have BT45's, on my RD400 on the stock 1.85 mags, 90/90 front, 110/80 rear, but I will go back to the Avons in a bigger tire, Nothing wrong with the Bridgestones, just like a big tire feel.
I'll go to am26 100/80 front and a 110/90 rear.
Conti's are a race tire and would not use for a street bike. I have used race tires on the street before and they just have a greasy feel, unless your going like all out too fast on the street like a deals gap backroad heated blast. Also not a good wet tire at all. For the dry track...Yes, until it rains! We run 24-25 front and 26-25 rear in the dry on the Conti radials.
Lyn does have the hookup on freshies though.
For street bikes I just order online from tiresunlimited.com
Date codes have been fine.

Chuck I believe they're talking about the DOT Conti Classic Attacks, the race tire is the CR2 (now being phased out by the CR3).
I've ran/run both. The street Classic Attacks are a great tire. They're radial construction, the rubber compound is a blended dual "continuous compound" so they wear well for the street. The grip is awesome, the only downside personally is they're a bit heavier than the 2 ply BT's, etc.
As far as the Conti CR (Classic race) they're absolutely incredible, for what they're designed for.
I went with the Avons. Good price and a manufacture date of late Nov 2018. This was the first time I removed rims/tires from a 400. I see why the front end stays down more. Surprisingly heavy but all ready for next month. Just need to scrub them in a little more.
