believe it or not, I used an old exhaust head tube from the kz project and was able to insert into tank and coax almost all of the dent out, had to be a good 3/8" down. When it started returning to a more normal position I was worried it was going to oil can and revert back to some of its previous shape..

I have been looking on eBay for a tank, they either want too much, or the tank is too rusty. I found one that looked rough but was not rusty inside. so repair on the tank begins. Plenty of prep and sanding ahead.

I had not thought of approaching it that way, good to know. Thanks. There is an increased effort in lever pressure, if it gets too much that will be the next thing I do.

Thanks for the info y'all. I had a new set on hand I just did not have a part number for them. I installed Barnett springs and I must say clutch does not slip, and even with the longer swing arm there is no issue with it putting the front wheel in the air.

is there a specific year for fz600 plates? I never had stock carbs on this combo, so I have no comparison with them..

Turning Wrenches / SPEC2 and JL pipes
October 25, 2023, 04:48:04 AM
Earlier this year I purchased a set of JL pipes from John at Economy for my 75 RD, I thought I would post a side by side pic of these for comparison. The state of tune the RD being Supertune porting, mikuni TM32 heads machined by Supertune the JL feel a little crisper right off idle , however clutch started slipping and was really unable to get a real comparison of upper end pull. I will try the spec2 pipes on my R5 with 400 engine I am building now. I have replaced clutch and springs , now I am waiting for my Belray gear saver oil to show up, then another comparison run will be made.

I have like many of you have owned kawi 500 triple and 750. Rd350 and RZ350, I owned two RZ's one purchased new in 1984 and one bought used in 1986, the RZ was my all time favorite out of the group. I liked the handling and performance it had a more refined feel than the others. The triples all have such a wonderful sound when thy are on the pipe. The new RZ had minor mods like Boysen two stage reeds and Factory pipe products chambers. I would like to find another RZ but not at just any expense.

Removing the mass from the crank should provide longer life to the bearings, that is if your not revving it to the moon

Thanks for the info, I used only light pressure and only enough time to make a slight change in surface appearance. I also heated the vape rotor when I installed it, been on the engine for 3 yrs now, and has not budged.  I think I read about heating it from your post. the link is great info. Thanks.

OH Thank You so much, kind words, if it   was the only project maybe it would be a different color, however after placing the tank on it I was convinced I was comfortable with silver. Thanks again.

OK the color is silver not emerald green, I made an executive descision to go with silver instead of emerald green. The candy green being applied without a proper area will consume way too much time. I have two RD's that were getting jealous about my time spent with the KZ, so silver it is. Ready for service, not too pretty and not too ugly .....just right. :vroom:  :vroom:

cool, great to hear about the reliability. I have a vape unit on a 75 rd350 , I did not lap the rotor on it either and have not had an issue with it slipping. I guess it could be an added measure in some situations.

Looking good I always thought the swept header looked great.
