Race Discussions / Re: 2023 World SBK Schedule

Thanks for that info SoCal250! I watched the tail end of World SBK the year before last when Toprak was crowned champion. To me it felt more real-life than MotoGP. Might have been my imagination but the cameras seemed to get closer up to the bikes on track. I still enjoy MotoGP but World SBK is also exciting.

actually, we are i'd think. we are a bunch of middle aged men with disposable income that see the value in a small cc 'replica' of sorts race bike.
I just think they should have done better chassis wise.  :twocents:
I agree. Me and my riding mates have been pining for small displacement multi-cylinder motors for years. We are all in that demographic. The generic 4-stroke twin cylinder motor leaves us cold. Bring back the 400 arms race! I'm personally waiting for Yamaha to launch a 400/450 three cylinder - baby sibling of the FZ09/XSR.

If you want something more grippy check this site out:

For my previous FZR400 track bike I bought 18" track tires from Derek Bennett. Great advice & service!

Thanks! Yes Shinko Podium 006 front & back. I like them a lot. Great grip for street riding. I'd probably go for something more grippy for track riding. Overall I think they are underrated tires. Just my 2 cents.

They are indeed great handlers. I have owned a few of the US models over the years. The frame is aluminium unlike the FZR600 which had a steel frame. Very popular for track/race in Vintage classes. Would love for this to go to a Forum member who would love it as much as I do. Just looking to thin the herd a bit for new projects so open to reasonable offers!!!

Thanks Red! I'm not on Facebook but I will check it out.

General Chatter / Re: Off-Roading at my age?

KTM 390 adventure is on the list for sure! I've watched a ton of You Tube videos and it looks like the right balance of road/off-road for what I would be doing.

Beautiful day here in NC today and what better way to celebrate 1/1/2023 than a ride on a VJ23!
Happy New Year to one & all

Great feedback guys! Thanks for all the good advice. I am definitely looking at smaller displacement/lighter bikes for this adventure. The big ADVs don't interest me one iota. If the bike goes over I need to be able to pick it up without assistance. I was able to pick the CB500X up from a tip-over on a gravel road but it just confirmed that will not be going heavier than that. Would love to get my hands on a Yamaha WR250R but they've become "rare" (aka expensive) since Yamaha stopped making them. I don't get it.....why stop making such a great machine?

General Chatter / Off-Roading at my age?
December 21, 2022, 06:00:31 AM
Hi Team. Not related to 2-strokes but I really respect the general input from this Forum's members so I feel I would get some good feedback on my dilemma. First up I am 66.5 years old but in good physical shape & health. I've been a street rider since I started riding at age 16 (many 2-strokes BTW). I live in NC USA but in the last couple of years I have been spending extended periods in Colorado to escape the mid-summer humidity of NC. I will retire in July 2023 and our plan is to spend the summers in CO (particularly Salida/BV area). I have discovered there's a big offroad community out there. I am strangely drawn to the offroad riding scene having binge-watched Itchy Boots on Youtube but I have not ventured beyond some well maintained gravel roads. I wouldn't see myself going too extreme but I think I would enjoy exploring more of the unpaved roads and the scenery that comes with it. Of course I know I will want to do more if I get into it. I bought a 2014 Honda CB500X from a friend in NC and it is now housed at our second home in Salida CO. However it is not the ideal steed for anything more than smooth unpaved surfaces. Considering my complete lack of off-road riding ability am I mad to consider getting into this at my age?
