Title: Yamaha r5 project questions
Post by: rd400greenhorn on July 30, 2021, 09:26:18 AM
Hi guys
So, considering picking up a box of parts, Its a yamaha r5 frame with rd400 front end, swingarm and engine.
Engine is not in the frame

Its a project He is selling

So my question are
Can i fit the rd400 engine in that frame? Pipes as well?
What about fitting a later Rd350 aircooled seat to the frame?

Any info would be Very kind
Thank you :)

yes yes and yes.

the pipe hangers will be a bit (like 1") off but easy to fix. also charging system is different, need to use specific stock 400 stuff or aftermarket for 400, or cdi. all 75 and back rd350/250/r5/ds7 body work and seats will swap with no modifications.

rear upper motor mount to frame is different as well, but most people either make a custom one or just dont run it.   :twocents:

This is, what? Your third project bike in a year? How do you find the time? I am envious!

i work offshore so when iam home i have weeks off, can really get work done.

But I do buy and sell more now, so some projects are stalled, this project i wil maybe do a thread on or Its just gonna go on my insta, Its easier 🤷‍♂️
Anker motorcycle

Plus, when a bunch of parts are for sale, just grab it and put in storage. Eventually it Will be fixed up or sold again 😉
