Allright. Have removed the engine cover and first the circlip that holds the plastic wheel was off..

Removing the clutch Nothing looks out of the normal i think.

I believe the shift shaft in this engine was from a xs 400, early model, should be fine?
Not sure how i can test from here, maybe relocate the clutch and try shifting

Forgot to tell
The clutch actuator was busted where it meets the push rod, not sure how but something wrong. It was brand new

Yes engine is a total rebuild.
But I had it running and shifting somewhat good but after adjustinf and playing with the clutch cable things started to go south.
As if the clutch wont engage proper, maybe investigate on the clutch side before i start thinking of the i possible.. Removing the engine

Turning Wrenches / Rd400 wont shift gear

Yes so, took it for a spin and the clutch was Very Hard to pull so had the clutch adjust cover off and went up Till 3 gear i think, it had a Hard time shifting.
Then the screw came off  the clutch adjuster and No more shifting. Ive fixed the adjuster but the damn bike wont get into neutral or Any other gear Its stuck in 1? I think

What can i do and Any suggestions to what happended?
Total restored bike

I just tried to mount the rec/reg from my 'custom' rd and fitted it to the silver rd
No buzzing.

So, that rec/reg is not good.
#54
Well you dont really remove materiel with a hone and the cylinders came with pistons in, gone now, so thought maybe i can judt find new pistons and be done with it.
Unfortunately not. They were measured with digital gauge, at s pro workshop.
#55
Thanks.
So would they fit, i Mean wirth tolerances?
#56
So, got these 2 set of cylinders measured. Fresh bore but can i get pistons to fit?

1 set measures 64,90 mm
1 set measures 66,10 mm

Anyone?
Or do I need to rebore and hone 🤷‍♂️
#57
Thanks guys

Uwe, yes that sounds good :) Its because i got a Rd250 frame, considering saving it ( getting it road worthy) but mostly have rd400 parts. So🤷‍♂️..

I believe Its a later model 250, but not sure. But frame looks pretty much idebtical to a 400 when eye Balling it
#58
hi guys
is there any problem in doing so? its because i have a old stock rd250 frame, but mainly 400 engine parts. thinking about maybe making a 400 out of a 250 frame, is there any issues with that?
mount rd400 triple tree and 400 fork legs and basically make it a 400?

those are the only 2 differences or? engine capasity and fork legs :umm:
#59
well yes sorry, let me correct.

the outer bearings have the groove for ring and seal on the other side, no problem. iam only talking about inner bearings, which stock has a pin going into small hole in the engine case before you seat the crank in the case.

those 2 bearings are now smooth, ergo they have no pins.

Hi guys
So, had a crank rebuild, it came with smooth bearings, mening they did not have the pin on Them that sits in the engine cases.

Is this a problem?
Tips, recommend?
