~THE SPEED SHOP~ / Re: Aftermarket swingarms for the RD's

RZ swingarm will need the pivot tube narrowed about 1/4" to fit in a 350 or 400 frame. I assume the Daytona will need the same.
[/quote]
Yes, the Daytona is the same frame as European E/F models and they have the same pivot width like the former aircooled RD models.

Turning Wrenches / Re: TZ style dry clutch cover for RD

Quote from: Acme Moto on December 04, 2023, 10:30:21 AMGeorgios Sotirchos in Greece makes them. Search for him on Facebook. He is very responsive with messenger and was a pleasure to deal with. I recently bought two of them but have not installed them yet. One for my RZV and one for my LC350. RZV was about $2,000 and you need to send him your side cover to modify. LC350 was about $1,800 and he provides a modified side cover. I'll try to take some pics later this evening.
@Acme Moto
I have seen that Georgios Sotirchos does them for the RZV500, RZ350(a friend has one) and LC but I have not seen or read that he makes the dry clutch kits for the aircooled RDs.

Quote from: RayL on December 03, 2023, 04:09:28 PMFondseca is no longer selling the kit. I really want one. I emailed Nova Transmissions in England and they can make the input shaft but that's about it. Anyone know where I can still get one???
@RayL I wrote in 2020 in this thread that a german guy do the long shaft and the clutch sidecover with kickstarter hole. This guy, a racing friend of mine, did made the parts for Fondseca. I got the 2 shafts and a cover from his last batch. He got a victim of the big flood here in Germany in 2021 and lost his complete workshop. He did a lot of replica parts, mainly for TZs. That is one of the reasons Fondseca don't sell them anymore. He just started to get things sorted to do a bit of work again but sadly life was not good to him. He passed away this morning after a long battle with COPD. RIP Bernd :'(

Turning Wrenches / Re: IT175 pistoned RD400 motor

Hi,
I have a bike which has this engine configuration from new. It was a dealer special back in period done by the biggest Yamaha dealer here in Germany back then. They got around 50 overstock european 400E/2R9 models to do with them as the 400 were sold very slowly here as anyone went on the 4stroke waggon.
Beside the engine converted to 424ccm with the modification as written above you had the option of various aftermarket parts. Mine was built with PVM wheels, different fuel tank and seat, Noguchi expansion chamber, clip-ons and Raask rearsets. Some other bikes got full fairings and Lockheed brakes on top.
But I never had the engine open as the engine had only around 16000km when I got the bike around 19 years ago. Only rode the bike for around 100km in that nearly 20 years. But I will restore the bike in the near future and will open the engine of course. I will share my thoughts then.
Bike looks as it left the dealer parts wise beside the missing front mudguard(which I have) and the indicators which were changed by the owner in front of me.

Turning Wrenches / Re: Watercooled conversion?
December 19, 2022, 02:56:11 PM
Mark,
it was not a wearing problem we ran into. On not proper heated up race bikes we had some cold seizures. I am with you. Don't think that it is much of an issue on a road bike. But we have LC pistons easily available here so I think its better to use pistons that are designed for use in these LC cylinders.

As Mark said. I have 2 aircooled engines to watercooled at the moment and never ran into flywheel troubles also.
Mark, you can use RD/LC pistons if you use LC cylinders or TZ pistons if you use TZ cylinders. It is definately the better choice as aircooled piston as the taper and material of the LC pistons are matching the cylinders.
On both of my current engines(one with 250LC top end and the other with TZ250 top end) I have a TZ waterpump. But I had converted engines in the past with a electric waterpump solution. Both works.

Turning Wrenches / Re: Cox Customs RD350 box swingarm

I got quoted 1200 Canadian Dollar + shipping. When ordering you have to pay a 50% deposit and the final bill have to be paid before shipping out the finished product. Not cheap but in my opinion worth the part

Hi,
I was in contact with Byron Cox a few days ago. Weight of the swingarm with all the parts included seen in the above picture is around 9 lbs(around 4kg). I will order one as I have seen a TZ frame in flesh Byron made. Superb quality.

Turning Wrenches / Re: JL exhaust installation
November 04, 2022, 06:13:35 PM
Guys,
the information from JLrefer to the european RD models. European E is different to the USA E which is basically a European D.
A european E model share the same frame as a USA 79 Daytona model.

I love it, too. I recognize the Motolanna swingarm, and I think I saw Ceriani on the fork leg. Nice stuff. Does anyone know if the humped seat on the "before" pictured bike was OEM? It had torque induction printed on it, and I'm wondering if it's a stock seat from another market.
That's an italian made Giuliari seat. Aftermarket product which was available for every type of motorcycle back in the 70tees and 80tees. Came in various types for RD's.
And yes, it looks like a Ceriani fork. There are a few companies in Europe who produce replicas of the Ceriani forks

I saw that video before.
Overall a lovely bike and nice built but some details are not my cup of tea(mirrors and number plate position). But credits to the guy who built it, well done.

Turning Wrenches / Re: Rd250 vs RD350 Jugs
November 01, 2022, 03:18:27 PM
Fahron in the UK does conversions of the jugs but then you have 370ccm as he overcome the piston crown height with the 66mm piston of the DT175. But he uses new sleeves in that process.

And they have a different height as the piston pin to crown height is different on the RD250 and 350 pistons.
It is not possible.
