Hi guys,
Any ideas on how to stop my front brake pads from moving around? I can hear that little tabs on them hitting the caliper at lower speeds.
Rubber band maybe?
Ride faster.
Or get a noisier exhaust...
I have never noticed them clicking on the street.
+1 for exhaust upgrade
And stay away from full floating discs. They rattle a lot on bumpy surfaces....
A little silicone sealer and glue the back of pad to the caliper piston :umm:
Do you have the metal backing plates or shims or whatever they are called installed?
Louder pipes! :metal:
I'm too old now..I like quiet :)
I dont have those shims. Is there purpose to hold the pads in place? If I cant find them I'll use some silicone on the backs of the pads where the piston contacts them and see if that lasts.
Anti rattle is their purpose, don't use them myself.
I remember seeing them when I disassembled the brakes for rebuild. I think they were so deteriorated I tossed them.
I tried rubber band yesterday lol... but it wold be gone when I got home. Not sure why... maybe the pad gets hot enough to melt it.
Soon I will try silicone... once the rain stops I'll report back.
You can get replacement anti-rattle shims from Economy if the noise is bothering you.
Brake Pad Shims (pair) – RD250/350 RD400(C/D/E) 306-25828-04-00, 306-25827-04-00 (https://www.economycycle.com/shop/yamaha-rd250350400r5ds6ds7-parts/frame-related/brakes/brakes-misc/brake-pad-shim-rd250350400cde/)
Beware if you use the anti rattle shims you will have a lot of brake drag. Get a new disk rotor from John at EC that's freshly ground true and drilled for better cooling and looks...will not rattle as bad with a truer disk rotor.
Buy a better helmet and ride faster.
Or go all out with a big brake disk conversion with an R6 caliper. (lots of work though)
