I'm used to seeing that Yamaha used specific colors on it's bike models for specific years. This is true on the enduros for certain. I know early 60's YDS models could be have in different colors but the YDS7 and R5 have specific colors for each year.
But I see the RD line as kind of confusing. Did Yamaha offer RD's in different colors each year or were they year specific?
My question is about RS's in general but piqued by my quest to determine the original color of my 75 RD250 that is missing the tank and side covers being a tapestry of colors from previous owners.
This is from SOCAL in an older post.
1975 RD250B Clean White 0046 PW (Also called Pearl White)
Yamaha OEM Paint Sequence:
Basecoat: White Pearl B/C PNT-65000-01-46
Second Coat: N/A
Final Coat: Clear PNT-65000-04-00
He also has other listing with about every year with it color options when there were options
per market there were standards. for example:
us:
70 r5: purple/white
71 R5: white/copper
72 r5: black copper
ds7: only black gold (similar to 72 R5)
73 RD350: brandy wine or whatever the color is with metal badge and swoop
74 RD350: purple with lower stripe on tank
75 RD350: mandarin orange with hockey sticks
73 RD250: butterfly blue
74 RD250: goldish brown
75 RD250: white with orange hockey stripes that also go over the top of the tank
RD400: not sure. 76 mostly chappy red. think geneva green was also an option. 77 french blue, 78 silver with seat cowl, 79: 'daytona' year , pearl white with unique body work.
I think thats right for the US models only.
This, one of the very best color schemes for an RD:

I had a brand new '75 RD350 that I believe the actual color was Portuguese Orange.
I am currently resto-moding a '75 with a 400 engine, Vape/Zeal, ported, Superior Webco heads, PWK's and Pro-Flo street pipes...
.. where did that come from if i may ask, i had a 75 w a 400 motor. wonder if its one of my old ones.
I bought ,
A '75 that needed too much engine work and started buying 400 parts, then bought a '74 that I put on the road after about $100 and an equal number of hours giving it a thorough going over.
I currently have the chassis and parts painted, have to get a front disk and will start putting together.
My RD250Z VIN...
That VIN is for a '74 RD250A. Stock color is Amber Brown
